TWO YEARS OLD to take another Exam
Six Furlongs Fast Dirt $55,000
All horses 2 years old
Part of racing two year olds is the great amount of uncertainty that exist early into their career. Will the baby be a late bloomer, or will he display early development and be a quick star. Is dirt his preferred running style, or should I try one on the turf? If a first start proved successful on a wet surface, should I expect even more on a “fast” track? Trying to find the answer to these questions and others can prove to be a challenge. But with time, trial and error the answers will be revealed. Eventually the owners and breeders of each baby will start seeing whether or not they have in their stable -“the one”.
This group of two years old runners has already tasted success, and each comes in with one or more promising trips. On Saturday at the Ole’ North Track, some of the answers will be answered, while others will come away only a bit more confused.
As for the field for the running of the 2006 The APPEALING LOVE Stakes
PP1 | c cEE RUN | Owner- | Zbigcat | Jockey- | D Esperado | Odds | 13/1 |
Cees Tizzy x Cherokee Run
He brings a two for two record into this event. Both wins were at 4 and one-half furlongs, but he finished strong in both events, so ownership is optimistic that the added distance will not be a problem.
PP2 | BARMY ARMY(gb) | Owner- | Bcumming | Jockey- | S Carter | Odds | 14/1 |
Bering(GB) x Arch Sculptor(GB)
He was impressive in his winning debut in
PP3 | BELONG TO DAN | Owner- | Quiggy2 | Jockey- | B Mills | Odds | 3/1 |
Belong to me x A.P. Indy
Debuted in stakes competition and came away with a narrow win in the Missiour3 Special. This stakes win was enough to prompt track handicapper to choose him as the morning line favorite.
PP4 | FANTASOOZ | Owner- | Nin | Jockey- | Odds | 13/1 |
Fantasticat x Souvenir Copy
From a freshman sire that has some promise, FANTASOOZ is already entering his fourth start as a two year old. After breaking his maiden two races back, he rallied to come up a bit short in his last outing. He does not break well and may find himself close but behind a wall earlier on.
PP5 | polar sands(ire) | Owner- | Taffy | Jockey- | T Bang | Odds | 6/1 |
Dubawi(IRE) x Unbridled’s Song
Look very impressive in winning his debut; while return trip was less impressive. Like FANTASOOZ, he will be off the lead, but probably never too far back. Tired slightly in his last trip, so ownership hopes that five week layoff has rejuvenated the engine.
PP6 | the time tiznow | Owner- | Aggie52 | Jockey- | T Mafit | Odds | 5/1 |
Tiznow x Stormy
His debut was very impressive and any progress from that race will make him difficult to handle. He traveled over 6 furlongs in his lone race in 1:11 4/5 and was beginning to pull away in his final few strides.
PP7 | Separated at birth | Owner- | Sportoking | Jockey- | K Naber | Odds | 4/1 |
Distorted Humor x Elusive Quality
After winning impressively in his first start on a soft track, ownership was eager to get him back into an event on a dry surface. He did not disappoint them when ran a strong 1:11 3/5 over six furlongs LTO. He comes in with a two for two record; has leading jockey Naber aboard, and may keep his streak alive.
PP8 | ape the great | Owner- | Ape | Jockey- | B C Sprague | Odds | 9/1 |
Event of the Year x Northern Baby
Winner of one of three, he has been consistent each time out. He may be a good betting choice at 9 to one odds.
PP9 | UNBRIDLED MINISTER | Owner- | Taffy | Jockey- | T Bang | Odds | 6/1 |
Eddington x Deputy Minister
The freshman sire-Eddington, has the potential to be a solid sire, and nice 2 year olds likes UNBRIDLED MINISTER will be convincing more and more breeders to take a chance on him. This nice two year old is returning to the track his second career start. His debut resulted in a nice one length maiden special weight triumph. Any improvement from that race (six weeks back) will booster him into early stardom.
PP10 | afleet boundary | Owner- | Mavrkstabl3 | Jockey- | B Lett | Odds | 20/1 |
Afleet Alex x Plenty Chilly
This two year old is one of Afleet Alex’s early winners. He won his debut with a good stretch drive, and ownership is hopeful for that he will take another step forward. He comes in well rest (50 days) and ready to fire.
Handicapping two years old so early in the racing season is difficult to say the least. Some will stay steady progress from one race to another, while others will flatten out their development or display it in spurts. Others will be testing racing surfaces, and distances in an attempt to find the best set up. The Appealing Love Stakes is one of several races that will be used by the owners to measure their baby to other babies.
