Stakes Points Up For Grabs In Snaggin” Wagon

Stakes Points Up For Grabs In Snaggin” Wagon

North Florida – It was hot and sticky when I arrived in North Florida and although it was great weather for swimming, I wasn’t going near the water with all the alligator attacks I had been reading about.  Instead I headed straight for the track and the air conditioned clubhouse.  My assignment this week was the Grade III Snaggin’ Wagon for three year-old fillies.  They would be running a mile and a sixteenth over the main track for $125,000.  A small field will earn most of the entrants stakes points but it should be a competitive field.

In post one will be Frostfang (9/5) a gem of a bay filly by Forestry who is conditioned by Confessor.  She is the spitting image of her sire who is one of the best looking horses I have ever seen.  She is ranked # 16 and has won four of nine starts.  Starting late last year she put together a string of three in a row and one of them was the grade I El Pato Estupendo Especial.  She came right back in the grade II Louisiana Oaks and hit the board there before her fortunes took a turn for the worse.  She has a lot of early speed and will probably try and take it gate to wire.

More Than His (4/1) is a bright chestnut filly by More Than Ready and is owned and trained by Fredurst.  She won the Her Shin and the Siam Moose before stepping up the class ladder to the grade II Florida Oaks where she closed well from far back to be 6th.  She will need her best to get one of the top prizes here.

Ashleigh will send out her well bred filly Jupiter Rally (9/1), a lovely liver chestnut by Came Home.  She has only a maiden win from 12 starts but comes in off a big closing effort last time out to finish second in a mile allowance.  Her trainer found a nice spot to see what her filly has under the hood.

El Prado will be represented by his dark grey daughter, Secret Painting (6/1).  This lightly raced filly has only started five times and has won three of them.  Trained by Ecfarms1 she has a lovely form and is looking for her third win in a row.  I don’t know if she will keep her streak alive, but even though this is a big class jump she has improving numbers and could be the real deal.

Jungle Miesque Tos (5/1) has a name that must mean something to someone but it escapes me.  The copper chestnut by Harlen’s Holiday is trained by Flurgen4.  She has won exactly half of her 14 starts and comes to this race off a winning effort in a Nevada allowance.  She won by a widening four lengths and earned a trip to the big time with her 20 point jump in her speed figure.  She is a stakes winner having taken the Daryl’s Star eight back and was a closing second in the AP Prospector at a mile and should be around at the end.

Black Glitter (2/1) is the other speed in this race.  The outside post could hurt this daughter of Glitterman who is trained by Wiz10.  She is ranked in the top 100 and has won 5 of 14 starts.  Her last win was at Saturday’s distance and along with Frostfang they will keep each other honest which could well set it up for any of the closers.

Good Luck to everyone.
