Nine In Rabbit

(SP)Wyoming- Whirling Thunder put to rest the idea she was on a downward spiral by winning easily last Saturday. She broke in the front and never looked back and was not challenged after the first turn to cruise home two length ahead of the field. The closer Kidnapped Herself(IRE) did all she was suppose to, to get a place showing. She came from the back with a very strong closing kick, although it was clear she would not catch the leader she still showed a lot of spirit. A show was the best either of the favorites could manage and Red West is the one who did this from a very unfamiliar stalking run.

Another week and another turf jaunt. This time it is six and a half furlongs for sophomore horses, which has drawn a field of nine. The $50,000 Buck Rabbit Special is on tap for the weekend and it in honor of a horse that was able to only win twice in his entire career. “The is an absolute travesty,” was the response from one spokesperson to WHOA. “It is as if the WRC is drawing names out of a hat irregardless of their quality,” this spokesperson went on to say. The pressure is mounting on the WRC again this year and it could cause a general strike from the WHOA and their affiliates if things do not improve in the foreseeable future. It also is appears the racing publics is starting to side with WHOA and that will only add more pressure to the commissioners of the WRC. But lets step away from this growing controversy and take a look at this weeks runners.

Wise One entered by n2racing2. This colt is a five time winner but only one has been at stakes level. He has been running well this year, but struggling at the top level. He has been a solid consistent runner at allowance level liking to stalk the front runners. He will probably use the same technique this week coming out of an inside gate that he prefers. Having the wily veteran Vince Gannon in the irons will be to his advantage.

Burning For You entered by devineequi. This dark gray sophomore has only been running on the grass exclusively this year. He is another stalker that is struggling and that mostly can be put of the effects of an off track. He will be back on a firm turf for this run and that should help. He will go off at the long shot for the weekend.

Vindictive Tales entered by gallorette. After three fades in a row the trainer tried this colt on the dirt. He didn’t improve and faded again after a strong start but probably not where this front runner should be. The trainer has been shortening up his runs of late due to stamina problems and this will be his shortest stretch in a year.

Cinnamon Cat entered by theprofit8. This is another sophomore that was on the dirt last time out. He has been off and on the different surfaces, but has had the most success on the grass. He has been running consistently all season and returns to the distance he likes and the surface he excels on. How this translates the closer will be seen on Saturday.

Fuzzy Rainbow entered by dundey7. This colt had a sensational freshman year but is struggling this year. That could be he has been in graded company where he has been able to get the money. The closer shortens up this time out and has drawn the hot jockey Jesse Sands. This could translate into success on Saturday.

Conservatory entered by elesto. After a brief trip abroad, this sophomore returns to the States for a race. He is coming in off of two strong if not impressive runs. He likes to stalk the leaders, but needs more work on when to make his charge for glory, not leaving it too late for a good result. The trainer is hoping for a win like the last time the horse was here.

Winters Wind entered by epcotlen5. This lightly run chestnut sophomore comes in as the only horse to break the 100 speed barrier. The trainer moved him to the turf and put him in sprints and this seemed to ignite his efforts. After two place races he is looking for that first stakes win. He will attempt this from the front where he is most comfortable.

Lightfly‘s Desert entered by alverton. This colt comes in with three wins in a row and tagged as the early favorite. After nine races this colt has six wins and two places and has been slowly improving over this span. He likes to run with the leaders and returns to Wyoming to try and add a second stakes win to his resume. He will be assisted with this effort by the veteran jockey Ed Ivey.

Likes It Firm entered by li6. This colt started the year on the turf and has improved in doing so. This stalker has won half of his starts, but has yet to notch a stakes win. He is hoping to rectify this on Saturday coming form the outside gate. He has drawn a jockey who has been struggling all season and this could be a hindrance.
