El Pollo Sweet Goes Wire To Wire

This week across the pond in France was the running of The Rat That Rattles stakes. A prestigious race for fillies and mares over a mile and five sixteenths on the dirt. The weather was less than desirable the few days before the race, and unfortuneately the track did not dry in time for Saturday’s race, leaving the track listed as good. Six fillies and mares drew into Saturday’s race, all with high expectations of victory. The fillies loaded into the starting gate without any major delays, despite one filly hesitating to load into the gate.

At last all the horses were loaded and the gates were open. El Pollo Sweet owned by blazer3 broke easily and was out to an early lead on the rest of the field, leading by two and a half lenghts. The icechaser owned filly Henwaki was chasing her down in second. In third, six and a half lenghts from the front runnders was the cvbear trained Better Than Heaven . Is This Name Taken trained by rowdy was eight and a half lenghts back in fourth, followed by Seeking The Statue and Ms. Chant back behind the rest of the field by at least ten lenghts, owned and trained by tiramisu and wolfcub respectfully.

At the second call, El Pollo Sweet still held the lead and continued increasing it to four lenghts. Henwaki still held on to fourth, as well as Better Than Heaven maintining her position in third.

At the third call of the race, El Pollo Sweet still led the field by four lengths, Henwaki still in second, along with Better Than Heaven still in third. Seeking The Statue had moved up from fifth to fourth with, Is This Name Taken falling back to fifth. Ms. Chant trailed the rest of the filed by twenty and three fourths lenghts, perhaps she wasn’t handling the off track today.

The wire was quickly approaching, and El Pollo Sweet was under the wire first by a margin of one and a half lenghts. The quickly closing Seeking The Statue finished second, with Henwaki unable to stay off the contenders fading to third.
