Two Storms storms home to capture Spinning A Tail Challenge
Favorite Two Storms put on a real show down the stretch to capture this week’s Spinning A Tail Challenge. He extended his winning streak to four, and remains unbeaten on turf for his career. This was his first stakes victory and it moves him up to a rank of 126 in the three year old male Turf Sprint Division. With the favorite winning, the bet payouts weren’t the best we’ve seen, but some unexpected second and third place finishers made for a nice trifecta payout. Two Storms paid $6.30 $3.50 $2.10 across the board, with the exacta paying $32.20, and the trifecta paying out $107.70 on the wings of a pair of 4/1 shots rounding out the top three.
Sharks Oleander and Gunnar’s Gold(IRE) set the early pace, with Strong Ride stalking just behind them. Neither would give an inch and they were nose to nose right up to the third call. Strong Ride tried to split the leaders at the top of the stretch, but just as he was seeing some daylight, the second half of the pack surged through. Two Storms and Wildforestcreature battled in to the stretch, but as they hit about the midpoint, Two Storms cranked it up a notch, pulling away for a two length victory. Wildforestcreature stayed in second, and from nearly seven lengths out at the half, Miter Saw closed to third before he ran out of real estate, three lengths out at the wire.
