Five Ladies In The Memorial
(SP)Wyoming- Last Saturday was a good day in racing for the bettors, in as much as many of the long shots came in on the day. That made for some fun betting and generated a little more excitement. In the first NWRC race the an outside chance took the honors while the up and coming A.P. Precedent had to settle for a place a long way behind. In the second NWRC race the top three mentioned horses last week covered the board with Clever Decree taking the honors. There were not many surprises in the main event of the day with Polishyev winning the race from start to finish. Up to this race there were some questions about her stamina but she effectively ran them into the ground as she did the competition. She broke first form the gate and opened a big lead and then cruised home with John Dawg standing in the stirrups before they crossed under the wire. Coming in to place was Git Down who had to use a closing style instead of her usual stalking approach. This didn’t seem to deter her much and she was able to easily keep her hitting the board record still intact. Coming in to show way off the pace was the older mare Fairways N Greens(GB).
You can never guess what kind of race is set for this week. Come on give it a try. No? I will give you a hint, it is a type that is run way too much here. Do you know now? Yeah I thought you would, and you are right, it is turf route for the women. It is just another in a series of turf races that will be coming the next few weeks. This one will cover nine and a half furlongs for four years and older female runners. It is the $45,000 Dynayoh Pistol Memorial, another of the average horses honored by the WRC, as usual. Anyway there are five well matched ladies that have entered and it is time to meet them.
Whirling Thunder entered by piccolo87. This filly comes in off of two sub par performances. One appears to be to much ground for her to cover and the other was a win on an off track at claiming speeds. She comes back to the range where she is more comfortable and has a firm turf to run on. Add in the fact that John Dawg, a fiery jockey, is in the irons and you have the makings for a return to normal running with the front runner pressuring the field around the track. The trainer is looking for a better performance this time out in a stakes run.
Kidnapped Herself(IRE) entered by bikeboy. This Irish chestnut makes only her second trip to the United States for a race. So far she has had mixed results in stakes runs and only recently started to extend herself. It is slowly starting to pay off and this closer may have found her distance. She will have the steady hand of veteran Vince Gannon in the irons. This could be just what she needs to keep her on an even keel and bring her to the winner’s circle.
Visa To Moscow entered by caddywampu. This may be a long route but I am sure this mare doesn’t need an exit visa. This lady is a solid allowance runner that doesn’t seem to have the heart of a winner. This may seem harsh, but eleven places to three wins gives a strong lean in that direction. She is the type of horse that needs a good break from the gate or her race is basically over although having a short field should help. Maybe she just doesn’t like running in company. Anyway this will be only her second run at this level.
Red West entered by ads82263. A very apt name for this sorrel filly, although I am sure her father’s name helped in getting the red tag. When this filly was moved to the turf and more ground added she responded well and her speeds increased dramatically. This front runner comes in the only entrant to break the 100 speed barrier. All this has prompted the trainer to give her, her first shot at stakes level. She has drawn top jockey Jesse Sands for the ride and things are looking good for her.
Featured Event entered by sundail. This filly comes in making her first stakes level race of the season. She has been getting stronger as the year has progressed and the trainer believes it is time to put her to the test. She is a mix between a stalker and a closer and it seems to depend on the race how she responds. Cathy Campbell will be in the irons and it looks like a good match for the both of them.
