Two Year Olds Try to Stay Undefeated.

The WOODCUTTER Cap Stakes
Five and one half furlongs on Good Dirt
$90,000
All horses, 2 years old

We are in California to take a look at this year’s crop of youngsters. They all have dreams of being in Kentucky the first of next May. Amazingly, five of the eight are first time starters. It won’t take long to week some of them out. Let’s take a look:

#1 RICH KID trainer – ToTheTop, ( 9/1), Jockey – J Pimental (9%), Avg Sp # (63.5)
(MR. GREELEY x GENERAL MEETING x SEEKING THE GOLD) In his only race he won with a 63 SPF in a wire to wire win. As they tend to improve at this age, that bodes well for this Mr. Greeley colt. Having the inside post will help out as well.

#2 BLU SKY’S N’SONNY trainer – Easterly3, ( 27/1), Jockey – M. Staples (14%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
(SONNY HINES x SKYWALKER x RUBIANO) Our Morning Line long shot has a freshman sire with only 6 runners to date but the Unbridled son already has a dirt winner in that small bunch. Staples is in the irons and knows how to handle young horses. Could surprise here in his first outing.

#3 CAT ON THE BENCH trainer – StormChase, ( 11/1), Jockey – K. Evans (4%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
(BENCHMARK x CAT THIEF x MARIA’S MON) First time starter is sired by Benchmark who has an undistinguished sire career. With a couple of frontrunners in this race, may be best served to sit just off the pace and see what happens in the stretch.

#4 LONGASICANCDALIGHT(IRE) trainer – WhoAmI2, ( 4/1), Jockey – S. Webb (4%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
(EL PRADO(IRE) x TOUCH GOLD x QUIET AMERICAN) If it takes as long for this filly to race as it does to say her name she is in trouble. She is a first time runner with a nice pedigree and the young ladies usually mature a bit quicker than the boys at this age. Could be trouble.

#5 THANKSFORASKING trainer – MattsBest, ( 5/1), Jockey – C. Mecklenburg (9%), Avg Sp # (73.4)
(E DUBAI x STORM CAT x ATTICUS) Won his first race by a whisker with a nice 73 SPF. With a little improvement he could be the class of this field. Trainer MattsBest sure hopes that is the case and will have jockey Mecklenburg come from behind and pick off tired runners.

#6 C.V. CAT trainer – Reclaimed, ( 9/5), Jockey – R. Simcox (13%), Avg Sp # (77.9)
(STORM CAT x SEATTLE SLEW x NIJINSKY II) Another winner in his only race, and with the best speed figure in the race. He ran a 77 SPF last time out and with his impeccable breeding and one of the tracks best jockeys up in Simcox, he has to be the horse to beat here.

#7 CENTURY OF EVENTS(IRE) trainer – IM3xWiser ( 19/1), Jockey – B Jungnitsch (10%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
(CENTURY CITY (IRE) x EVENT OF THE YEAR x RARE PERFORMER) This Irish bred is running his first race and may try the turf after this one as his Daddy and Grandpa are both partial to the green. He has a capable jockey up and a nice post, so who knows what could happen here.

#8 BLUISH GROOM TED trainer –PuddinPuss, ( 5/2), Jockey – K Keyser (16%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
(GONE WEST x BLUSHING GROOM(FR) x CREME DELA CREME) First time runner but one of the favorites in the Morning Line with the Gone West blood. He also has one of the tracks best jockeys holding the reins and that sure can’t be overlooked with these juveniles. PuddinPuss hopes that the ML got it just right.

Morning Line = 6-8-4-5-1
Yoss Tipsheet = 6-5-1-2
Paz Picks = 6-5-8-4
Who really knows with these juveniles but I like LONGASICANCDALIGHT to finish fourth as long as I don’t have to say her name. I’ll take first time runner BLUISH GROOM TED for third. I am taking two who have already won for my top two spots, with But THANKSFORASKING just missing out to C.V. CAT who will end up in the winners circle.

Good luck to all runners!
