Welcome to Arizona downs where today we have a rarity in these parts, a stakes race on the grass. We have 6 horses trying to go 14 furlongs on the manicured lawn here in Arizona. Lets take a look at the six horses and there chances for winning the The NOBLE SWORD Memorial.
In post position 1 we have THE GOURMET at 3/2 and he looks like this race was designed for him because he fits in the race beautifully having won 2 or his last three at this distance against similar if not stronger company.
In post position 2 we have MIGHTY HAWK a lightly raced 4 year old that does have the distinction of winning a stakes race at first asking always good to see a horse do that.
In post position 3 sits VIN DA BONA has been running solidly of late with back to back allowance wins preceeded by two second solid horse dont know if his speed ratings will be enough to compete today.
Running from post position 4 CAHILL’S GOLD this horse will be on the lead and if not paid enough attention can and will wire this field if they are not careful, horse seems to be in shape and ready to run a big one according to his trainer cgk2
In post position 5 we have WINGFLY’S DANCER(IRE) this horse would be the favorite in just about every other stakes race this weekend. Can be the speed but in talking to N Gardner it seems like he will be coming off the pace instead of dueling with CAHILL’S GOLD.
Lastly in post position 6 we have WE ARE KINGS(IRE) Proved his mettle in Northern California with a couple of nice allowance wins in wire to wire style don’t see him doing that today but you never know .
1 THE GOURMET quicksand L Sutton 3/2-At 3/2 you start looking for reasons not to bet a horse, but i cant find one reason not to put your money on this horse quicksand has this horse primed for a big run as evidence by the bullet work he put in on tues going .47 flat in four furlongs i think this one is the one to beat!!!
2 MIGHTY HAWK lonepine N Trumbull 5/1- This lightly raced son of war chant is not to be taken lightly if he can make his move and get clear of THE GOURMET we may see an upset. Not one to be thrown out of your exotic plays.
3 VIN DA BONA loubrown K Saab 7/1- Will try for the lead in this race i dont think he can beat the other speed to the front and that will spell the end of his chances, would like to recommend this horse but his past performances dont show me any stalk and go tendencies, loubrown has said that K Saab is the best stalk and go jock at the track that is why he got the mount, but i dont see this horse being around the front too long.
4 CAHILL’S GOLD cgk2 Q Boutie 5/1- Likes to rush to the front, but doesnt have the stamina to gate to wire this field, he will be out there but his tendency to over exert himself will come back to haunt him again today as he is simply going to set a torrid pace and tucker out around the mile and a half mark. cgk2 says he keeps running him because you have to be in front to win and he has done it before and the jockeyQ Boutie likes to ride frontrunners so if he can settle him down after the first mile and if the closers dont fire, maybe, just maybe, but that is a BIG maybe, too big for me look elsewhere for your winner.
5 WINGFLY’S DANCER(IRE) lafly N Gardner 3/1-Likes the distance, likes the front, but can press and go, and I think that will be the strategy today as we have a speedball that no one wants to tangle with will be in the lead late but can he hold off THE GOURMET?? I dont think so unless THE GOURMET gets caught up in the sea of dead front runners.
6 WE ARE KINGS(IRE) punter34 S Sims 5/1-Nice win last time out with one small problem he was up by ten lengths early so is that a quality win or did he catch a small weak field?? i think it was the latter i dont think he will be 10 lengths ahead of anyone today, as a matter of fact i dont think that he will see the front at all i think he will sit third and try to rally late only to get outkicked by the closers may be a good third bet for you trifecta bettors.
