Oaks Post # 19: ZYTOWN
Well the time is here, the day all sim race fans have been waiting for!! Derby/Oaks Day. Congratulations to all trainers who have the priviledge of having a runner in either event and best of luck to you all.
Now over to the Oaks where i have the pleasure of running the pen over an exciting young chestnut filly by the name of ZYTOWN. Since the stable and trainer are on a full media and public lockout after the filly’s last 2 runs, which were way off character. We are going to have to look at past form of this beautiful filly to try and get a guide on where she is at, although my track spy’s do tell me she is wound up and ready to get down and dirty this weekend!!
This filly is by the son of the outstanding GONE WEST who goes by the name of SPEIGHTSTOWN. Take it from me this stallion is no slouch, in his first year as a sire he produced an outstanding 8.8% of stakes winner to runner. Including stakes winners such as SPRITE REMIX , SPOKITO, CALAMIANES, IN SPITE OF YOU , SPAZTOWN, SAINTSTOWN , SPITEFUL and graded winners SPEIGHTFUL, PEACE BLOSSOM and of course our filly of the moment ZYTOWN.
This little girl wasted no time showing herself as a force on the track stepping on the track FTO as a winner over 5f on a dirt track. Then just 3 weeks later backed that up with a win in a NW2L over 5.5f on dirt. Her very next start and on short rest and stepping up to G3 company proved at little to much for the young filly.
Trainer ZYRO then made a decision in the best interest of his promising sim star by spacing her next start by 9 weeks and boy did she enjoy it, coming from last in stakes company to claim the field easily in the stretch. She once again proved this to be no fluke, winning her next outing 4 weeks later again in stakes company and once again finishing right over the top of the field and just getting home by a nose, at this stage ZYRO knew the filly had a lot of ability, but stayed patient and put her over another 7f dirt stakes race. Once again she came thundering home, she ran 3rd beaten 1 length, but the signs of her ability were shining bright.
Her next start she lined up in a G2 race over 8.5f dirt and wow did she mow them over. Coming from 4th last in the 14 horse field, she absolutely flew over the top of them to win going away.Taking into account one of the filly’s she beat in that race AMPURIA previously won and was placed at G1 level, this was a very exciting time for ZYTOWN and her trainer. Finally ZYRO’s filly had paid dividends in a big way and you didn’t have to be an expert to know more of the same was to come in the future.
5 weeks later ZYTOWN lined up in the G3 Reflection Futurity against at that stage a very talented field including AMPURIA, but this race added an unknown quantity known as an off track!! Except someone forgot to tell ZYTOWN, once again she won in style, but the impressive thing was the way she did it and posted a 98 SP to boot. Any sim trainer would agree, that’s a very special time for a filly her first time on an off track. This was to be her last run as a 2yo.
Her first start as a 3yo did nothing to dampen her trainers excitment towards his young filly, yes she did run second in the 9f dirt G2 race, but if you take into account, that out of that 14 horse field every single horse is now a stakes winner, graded placed or a graded winner, thats a very handy second in anybody’s language. Just 3 weeks later this stunning young filly lined up in the Equinics and absolutely dominated her field winning the G1 9f dirt race with what looked like plenty in reserve.
Unfortunatley that may not have been the case because in her 2 start since she hasn’t battered an eye lid, but i dare say this is only temporary and if an other trainer in the Oaks field underestimates her, then they do it at there own peril as this filly does have the goods to be right in the finish. Good Luck to ZYTOWN and ZYRO in the Oaks. I for one will be cheering her home.
