Juvenile Fillies seek first stakes win in Sister Capote Bonanza
A short field of four juvenile fillies goes to the post in Washington’s feature race, the Sister Capote Bonanza. The race is a quick 5.5 furlongs on the main track, which is currently rated in fast condition. Despite the prize money up for grabs ($55,000 will be distributed), the track secretary had to scramble to find a fourth filly to fill the race.
Breaking from the inside post is that filly, Wall Street Loser. The chestnut daughter of Brian’s Rose is owned by trainer *CPU. She has been tested at 5.5 furlongs twice before, both times over this course. While she has earned a paycheck in both of those races, Wall Street Loser really can’t be expected to do more than pick up a fourth place here.
Foregiven, a brown daughter of Repent, leaves from post position 2. Owned and trained by Monica, Foregiven won her debut in a 5f maiden with a nice 69SP. She makes her second career start in this race. It’s a good spot for her, as she gets to stretch out a bit while facing relatively weak company. Foregiven is quite deservedly the 4-1 second betting choice, but has a legitmate shot at second and perhaps stealing the win if the favorite turns in a disappointing performance.
Gelato, a brown filly by Blue Moonofalaska, is also coming out of a winning debut. She won a 4.5f maiden at Nevada on a sloppy track with a 72SP. The switch to a fast track here makes it difficult to predict her chances of success. In her debut, Nowhere’s filly went straight to the lead to avoid mud in her face; whether she can be so speedy here is unknown. If is that fast or faster, look for her to try to grab the win, but most likely she’ll duel with Foregiven for second.
The 1-9 betting favorite will be in the outside post. Racedragon’s Dragon Dynasty is the only dual winner in the field, and the only to have ever faced stakes company. The Dubai Destination filly won her debut at 5f with an 82SP, then ran sixth twice in an allowance and a stake (both at 6f). In her most recent race, she won a 5.5f allowance in Northern California going 5.5f with a 76SP. She is clearly the class of the field.
Prediction: Dragon Dynasty will take home the Sister Capote Bonanza trophy, while Gelato and Foregiven will duke it out for second. How well Gelato takes to the fast track will determine which filly runs second. Barring a miracle, Wall Street Loser will, unfortunately, lose.
