Mesquite Survives Inquiry, Grills Rivals

After a long photo and an inquiry, Mesquite was declared the official winner of the Tabitha Bewitched Stakes.  Conniecpu’s streaking mare survived a claim of foul lodged by trainer Lordpye on behalf of his third place finisher, Rebel Yell N.

Mesquite stalked the leaders from third place throughout the mile and a half contest.  Entering the stretch, the big mare moved quickly along the hedge to engage the leaders.  At the same time, second place finisher P J Total Quest was launching her bid in the four path.  Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Rebel Yell N trailed the field some twelve lengths behind and apparently going nowhere.  Suddenly, Rebel Yell N woke up and began weaving her way between rivals like a wild horse.  She made up those twelve lengths in no time flat and was flying between horses when P J Total Quest drifted in while Mesquite appeared to be bearing out.  Rebel Yell N got pinballed in the shadow of the wire.

The three hit the line together.  The photo revealed Mesquite to be a head in front of P J Total Quest who had a head up on Rebel Yell N.  The head-on replay clearly showed that there was insufficient room between Mesquite and P J Total Quest at the time Rebel Yell N tried to bull her way between those two.  The results stood.  And Mesquite met Connie in the winners circle for the fourth consecutive time.  Congratulations to the voice of SIM social life and her sensational mare.
