Roxyken’s 1000 Breeding Point Challenge – Knightmare

I have reached my goal!!! Well I will have reached my goal on Saturday July 5, 2014. Currently I have earned 1321 breeding points but spent 330 breeding runners for a total of 991 breeding points earned. My runner on Saturday is in a four horse field with no travel penalty so no matter what will earn 10 points putting me at the very least to 1001! Just a tad over 6 full months to get to 1000 breeding points.

When I started in January I did not create a new stable like a new player would but created a stable attached to my master stable. That type of stable starts out with zero breeding points where a new stable a new player would open with 50 breeding points. So I bred my first runner with credits for 30 points to represent those 50 points in my new stable. I transferred in $50,000 in sim cash so the stable started off with $60,000. I then purchased five $1 auction horses. I tried to be as random as I could with the auction horses to try a represent a brand new stable as best I could. So I was off and running with $60,000 in sim cash , a 30 point credit bred and five $1 auction purchases.

In that first month I tried to approach placing my horses in much the same way as a new player. I entered my horses in allowances where they ran at high odds and were not successful. I slowly dropped them to claiming races and as they finally started to earn breeding points I slowly started to fill out the stable with 30 point bargain bred runners. Once the stable was full I started retiring the five $1 auction horses completely filling my stable with 30 point bargains.

I did not add my first newly bred runner until the first of February. By April I had filled my stable with the three year old bargain runners and in May retired a couple of those and bred a couple of two year old runners. In all I bred 11 runners at a cost of 30 points each eating up 330 breeding points. In addition the stable did start off with 1 bargain bred representing initial starting points for a new stable.

I did target state bred or local restricted races when looking at sires for my new runners. All I did was go to Races, and look at local only for different regions. I think the India, China region is the weakest as far as competition goes and you can find races just about any week at a lot of different tracks. I found runners bred in Utah, Kansas, Washington and Minnesota also had less competitive regions where you can find success with cheap runners. Most runners were competitive running speed figures in the 50’s and low 60’s. The highest speed figure a runner earned was a 77 speed figure which is the only speed figure above 70.

My five one dollar auction purchases earned 61 points. I have retired two of my bargain runners.

Prospector  Day ( Day of the Cat x Prospectors Bid x Singh) 6-0-0-1  27 points earned

Rock Quest ( High Cascade x Beau Quest x Keen) 4-0-2-0   80 points earned

Here is the list of my current runners and the points they have earned

Sankara Mist (Major Impact x Northern Passage x Sing) 7-2-3-1  207 points earned

Wichita Nights (Liginsky x Raphane x Celestial Storm) 6-1-1-1  115 points earned * races Saturday will earn at least 10 more points

Brasheer (Arion x Surako x Yeats) 6-0-0-2   70 points earned

Deceptive Measure (Bosporus x Bassenthwaite x Plain Dealing) 7-1-1-0  130 points earned

Tower Shiek ( Phoenix Tower x Arabian Sheik x Forever Sparkle) 5-1-0-2  97 points earned

India Peak ( Serious Spender x Tabkir x Santiago Peak) 5-1-0-3  117 points earned

Dream Net (Dream Run x Anet x Hooched) 5-2-2-0   157 points earned

Turible ( Tiz a Trip x Walesa x Chumming ) 5-2-0-1   120 points earned

Hasty Saxon (Sussex (GB) x American Tribute x Hasty Groom) 2-0-1-1 60 points earned.

Chunk the Ring (Chumaree x Where’s the Ring x Gold Token) 2-1-1-0 80 points earned

Most of the starts for these runners were in local races. The big advantage is no breeding point penalty. Because they are cheap and run in regions with little competition it was extremely easy to earn more points than they cost to breed. I did not fear losing them in claiming races although that is always a risk runners like this tend to be ignored. Currently the stable has a record of 76 starts 12 wins, 13 places and 13 shows. It will take one more race to get to 1000 points. I have $275,112 in sim money after starting with $60,000 the stable has eared $215,112. Despite misplacing runners in the first month I was able to get to a 15.8% win percentage and 50% in the money.

Now that I have a decent amount of breeding points what should I do? I am going to give to new players and promote the Bargain Bred Racing Series. I will breed 3 runners to give to the top three finishers of a race to be held on August 9th . The race will be restricted to new players who will breed bargain two year olds. I will put up a post on our message board for the BBRS and I will post on the main message board as well.

I have had a lot of fun and will play the stable out till the end of the year the same way I have been running it just to see how many more points I can earn.

  • A fine achievement and very well documented through the year – newbies (and many long-term players, probably) could learn a lot from this series of articles.

Looks like you have pipped Roxy too !!!

  • 4nighthawk

Very interesting. I have several stables that I basically do the same thing with. All my Notsobad master stable started out that way. Earned so many points have bred really high priced local horses now. Has a
26% or so winning rate with no hot races.

  • Well Done Knight!!!! I’m on the edge of crossing the 1,000 barrier myself with 979.

Different strategies and approaches to the game seem to have worked well for both of us. It has been educational and a lot of fun too!
