The ACK RICK Handicap

$30,000
All horses, 3 years old

Grab a hat and pick a number may work just as good as trying to handicap this race.  This year’s running of The Ack Rick Handicap –Stk proves to be a close a race as we’ve ever had.  Six entrants vying for an estimated $30,000 purse and not a cloud in the sky to muddy things up may make deciding a winner difficult.  Never fear though, as Maverick has done your homework for you.  Our contestants this year are as follows:

PP1  3/1  THE MAGIC FLUTE(IRE)

SINGSPIEL(IRE) x CAERLEON x VAL DE L’ORNE(FR)

Trainer:  diomed

Jockey:  H Case ( 44 – 2 – 6 – 9 – 5% )

W inner of one previous stakes attempt, The Magic Flute(IRE) narrowly missed his last time out in stakes company.  With a career high 92 speed rating, he looks to repeat that performance and steal this race from a very tight field.  He’s been lightly raced so far this season and I like that move.  Other than a questionable jockey selection he has much going for him.

PP2  4/1  DEPUTY STRIP

COMIC STRIP x DEPUTY MINISTER x MACHIAVELLIAN

Trainer:  glitercod3

Jockey:  I Naber ( 59 – 7 – 7 – 7 – 12% )

This is a prime example of a horse who starts to mature as a three year old.  Starting with his first race of the year, he’s shown brightly and looks to have a good future in front of him.  If you take his last race out you find a streak of three consecutively races ran at decent times to find the winners circle.  His mid to back of the pack running style may prove successful.

PP3  3/1  ERMINGTON DE LAGO(AUS)

ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) x MOUNTAIN CAT x HAWKSTER

Trainer: martini

Jockey:  M Buck ( 268 – 57 – 54 – 46 – 21% )

Ermington De Lago(AUS) struggled in his last outing but has been on tear every race before then.  Although he’s yet to find gold in a stakes race I think this may be his chance to shine.  With multiple race ran over the 90+ speed rating and an even field, you may find his name on top of the tote board.  This is my pick for an across the board bet.

PP4  4/1  STROLL’S QUEST

STROLL x CORONADO‘S QUEST x TABASCO CAT

Trainer:  buffbills

Jockey:  S Colon ( 117 – 5 – 9 – 12 – 4% )

Screaming for 6 furlongs, Stroll’s Quest looks to be more suited for sprints rather than the distance ran today.  Every race he’s run so far has show signs of fatigue in the stretch and only a change in jockey instructions may prove successful.  He’ll take the lead early but look for him to give it up late.  Look elsewhere.

PP5  6/1  ST. JOHN‘S

FUSAICHI PEGASUS x SEATTLE SLEW x BUCKPASSER

Trainer:  bargiana

Jockey:  B Brown ( 89 – 8 – 11 – 7 – 9% )

Only raced once this year and coming off his best race ever, this Fusaichi Pegasus colt looks like he may be ready for more.  I think he is maturing later than most of his rivals and at 6/1, he may shock many at the mutual window.  He get’s a part of my Tri  ticket for sure.

PP6  3/1  TO A PULP(IRE)

DALIAPOUR (IRE) x PULPIT x MT. LIVERMORE

Trainer:  dundey5

Jockey:  M Olsen ( 214 – 38 – 22 – 26 – 18% )

Finding Graded company a little more difficult than he would like, To A Pulp(IRE) is hoping that the move down will equal a win.  He’s more than proved that he can keep up with the competition and with an experienced jockey, M Olsen, he may have the magic touch.  Look for a late close from the back in a photo finish.
