Acid test for Ankaline in the Pro Teddy Stakes

1 – 408/5956 – King Of Kilmore – Deyoto3 – K Ledwith – 3/5fav

This Stoutly bred son of Lonhro, out of a mare by the St Leger winning Snurge and with Theatrical in the bloodline, won his maiden over 6f turf on his racecourse debut as a 3 year old last year and had owner Deyoto largely optimistic at the prospect of his potential improvement over more distance. He went on to run very consistently, over a variety of distances, winning a sprint allowance, a Stakes race routing and placed over 13f. He`s began this year adequately, although well beaten at the Equinics, he had some good horses behind when winning a Stakes over 9f on his penultimate start with a lifetime best 102sp, and then last time out, 4th of 10 in a 9f Stakes, he ran another decent race finishing in front of a Group winner. He has the best form coming into this race and it`s no surprise to see him as odds on favourite.

2 – 144/3180 – Simply Jimmy – Juimmyd – J Babb – 9/1

Another Austalian bred colt won a few claimers/starters as a 3 year old last season but the highlight of his career, 3 runs ago at 10f on turf, was his first allowance win. He has been soundly beaten twice since then and, making his Stakes debut here, it is hard to see him being able to trouble the main protagonists.

3 – 1468/111 – Ankaline – Jdoggtx – G Arnold – 7-2

Lightly raced son of Anziyan, unraced at 2, broke his maiden in a 13k claimer towards the end of last year and continued in that class for the remainder of the season. Claimed by Jdoggtx for 10k, fresh surroundings have transformed the horse and he`s won his last 3 (claimer, starter and allowance with 3 95+ sps) for his new owner. Won, going away, in a starter over 9f here at Japan last time he makes his first attempt in a Stakes race tomorrow. He is likely to get an easy lead, is relatively unexposed and poses as the biggest danger to the market leader.

4 – 330/4122 – Capote Protector – Caddywampu – W Manfull – 2/1

This colt by Capote, out of a Stakes winning Mr Prospector mare, was a Stakes winner at 2 and 3 but his form has been gradually tailing off. As a 4yo last season he was dropped into the allowance ranks and picked up a couple of wins but was clearly not up to the level of form he`d shown as a younger animal. Worryingly this year he`s been dropped further, into claiming class, and was taken by his new owner for 50k two runs ago. He finished well for a place in a 6 runner allowance on his debut for Caddywampu`s stable last time and was given a break after. There was a sign that this horse has`nt totally lost his ability in that previous run and, even though he may need this race, he could`nt be completely ruled out.

Summary

Jdoggtz has certainly worked his magic with Ankaline and he has found his charge a good opportunity for his Stakes debut here. The only frontrunner in the field, an easy lead is guaranteed and, if anyone can topple the strong favourite, it is likely to be him. Still, it`s hard to get past King Of Kilmore who clearly is the form pick and should relish the 9.5f trip. Simply Jimmy has been badly out of form and should struggle in this grade and Capote Protector, coming of a 6 week rest, may be the one to fill the third spot.

1 – King Of Kilmore

2 – Ankaline

3- Capote Protector
