CYCLONE LARRY DERBY

A bunch of above average 3yos take to the track this week to stretch their stamina over 2000m at Queensland in the Cyclone Larry Derby. Looking at the field it could easily be mistaken for a Grade event but even though there is only an allowance win for the offering, bragging rights and some momentum going into bigger events later on is up for grabs. Here’s the field,

CHANGE O’ LUCK(AUS) ~ This son of Lucky Owners from one of Queensland’s best trainers in sabalou has a touch of class and a devasting late charge. Loves this track having won here on 4 occasions and will have his fair share of crowd support. Big chance to atone for his 2nd to Crimson Warrior in the Sabalou Derby last month.

REDEMPTION FOUR ~ Lightly raced Manila colt who continues to improve. Was a last start winner at this track so could be a smokey. Will be one of the early leaders so a soft run in front might see him pinch it.

NORTHERN WELLS ~ High class son of War Chant trained by respected trainer jockymax. Certain to be in the mix here after winning two stakes races before tiring badly in the Sydney Derby Trial. Back in class here a touch so will be another to challenge for the early lead and keep going.

CRIMSON WARRIOR ~ Amanda Jane’s most successful son, this colt from Red Ransom has been mixing form of late but returned to form in magnificient fashion last start in the Sabalou Derby when he came from last to win easing up. Will relish the fact that there is plenty of speed in this race and will be flying down the centre of the track with Change O Luck.

STAG HEAT ~ Facing a stiff class rise here after fading in the latter stages of the Sabalou Derby. This isn’t any easier and has to contend with an extra 200m. Graywolf is certain to have him fitter though so a rough chance in multiples.

ZERLINDA ~ Completely out of her depth here and wouldn’t win if she started Friday. Hopefully it keeps out of the road of the ambulance.

BALANCE SHEET(SAF) ~ Has been performing ok in sprints but the 2000m will test. Another one the ambo will have to watch out for.

KEPLER NORDIN ~ Brilliantly bred 3yo from Green Desert who is racing in great heart. Has won over 1800m but facing his acid test here. Place hope.

It does look to be a race between the top 4 in what should be a great race with two of them speed horses (REDEMPTION FOUR and NORTHERN WELLS) who love to get in front and 2 swoopers ( CHANGE O’ LUCK(AUS) and CRIMSON WARRIOR) who will be challeging late. The two swoopers should get them but not sure which order. Can’t wait for the result.
