Mizzen Dizzie wire to wire in the Sydney Mile

We were commenting in the BTB article for this race that speedsters were to be the key in this event. Well, at least for one of them, this held true. Mizzen Dizzie came flying from the gate, imposed extenuating early fractions and held off all off the pace rivals with ease to conquer this year’s edition of the Grade I Sydney Mile, the feature for this weekend at New South Wales. The winner is out of Mizzen Mast in a Rahy mare and covered the eight furlongs in a very snappy 1:34 over the firm turf course, and improved his lifetime record to 30-12-4-4, with career earnings of $2,218,536 for trainer spain.

There were few alternatives in the race, with the winner going to the lead from the start. First, it was Gingobell who served as escort, with Congo and Niner Connection following. But Mizzen Dizzie was way too good on Saturday and slowly took complete control of the race, drawing away by five lengths at the top of the stretch. The come from behind horses were making there moves, with Echoes coming from last and taking second, and although was gaining ground on the winner, in no way it was a threat for him. Niner Connection held for the show spot and Gingobell was a credible fourth.
