Six and one half furlongs — Firm Turf

SITTIN IN A TREE G out of the medusa barn looked to dominate this field early in the race, pulling out to a huge 3+ length lead at times. The rest of the field toiled as SITTIN IN A TREE G looked to go wire to wire.  MADE SIMPLE(IRE) of plstable1 fame and DANZIG’S BUDDHA from vicki’s stable fought for second early but MAD SIMPLE (IRE) simpley couldn’t keep pace.

GIVELOVETHEBOOT (safbred) and DIXIE DOODLE (sopark100) sat in just behind the leaders stalking the pace. RAIN BURST(kevoman3) and YOKEL ACTING(GB) (redmarilyn) meanwhile trailed and never really threatened to be a factor. GIVELOVETHEBOOT had passed DANZIG’S BUDDHA by the third call, but it still appeared that he was racing for place money as SITTIN IN TREE G still had a commanding lead.

Almost out of no where however, GIVELOVETHEBOOT turned it up a gear and tracked down SITTIN IN A TREE G during the last furlong and a half. He poked his nose in front just strides before the finish line. It looked from this observer that I was watching a monumental comeback by GIVELOVETHEBOOT, but SITTIN IN A TREE G showing a true toughness that only champions have regained the lead at the wire and won by a head.

SITTIN IN THE TREE G paid 11.30 to win and the exacta with GIVELOVETHEBOOT paid 99.70. Both horses scored a huge 107, which just might propel both into graded company soon.
