Field of 5 to line up for a brawl
The HARD SMASH Stakes
A mile and three sixteenths $45,000 Firm Turf
Fillies and Mares 3 years old
This year’s field is small in size, with only five starters. The field is relatively inexperience in regards to total races ran, but appears in review to be a competitive field with talent.
Hard Smash is a nine year old mare that ran in twenty-seven sim events. Her seven wins contributed to earning over $200,000 in purse earnings.
As for the field for the running of the 2006 The HARD SMASH Stakes
PP1 | red regent | Owner- | Kevoman2 | Jockey- | D Esperado | Odds | 4/1 |
Red Ransom x Vice Regent
A successful turf sprinter that will be attempting to stretch it out to her furthest distance ran. Expect her to be on or near the pace down the back stretch.
PP2 | super sharp | Owner- | Gradetwo | Jockey- | K Naber | Odds | 5/1 |
Seeking the Gold x Nijinsky II
A late runner that is usually several lengths back when she shifts into high gear. Having the tracks leading jockey on her back should add to her chances. He knows this track and the tight turns of this inter-course. The small field should not place her behind too much traffic, nor push her out into the middle of the track in the stretch. Naber has a way of running ground saving trips, and this filly is talented enough to make up the ground.
PPP3 | kick out the jams | Owner- | Fugazi | Jockey- | T Mafit | Odds | 5/2 |
Mighty x Mambo
KICK OUT THE JAMS will accompany SUPER SHARP off the pace during the early stages of this event. She hopes to break a six race losing streak with a strong showing. The distance should not be a problem for this once claimer.
PP4 | Owner- | Capetown | Jockey- | N Stalker | Odds | 2/1 |
High Chaparral(IRE) x Red Ransom
For KICK OUT THE JAMS and SUPER SHARP to utilize their strong kick, then a challenge at the front of this short field may be needed. RED REGENT will most likely receive some pressure from this co-favorite. LANCASTER(IRE) comes in off of a nice winning performance and finished strong (at 8.5 furlongs). The added furlong should not be a factor.
PP5 | lord stanley | Owner- | Nywinger | Jockey- | BC Sprague | Odds | 2/1 |
In her last trip, she returned for her second running on grass. It resulted in a narrow win in a restricted allowance event. Her first trip on the turf was a two year old in a stakes event and she performed well in that race (2nd), so a nice run this time out would not be a big surprise. She will probably be sitting behind the two expected pace setters, and patiently wait to make her move. She comes into this event as the co-favorite (with LANCASTER(IRE), and should be a threat.
A good balance of runners make up this field, and should prove to be a competitive trip. My selections are:
