Strong Five For Memorial

(SP)Wyoming- The Black Tie(IRE) Special is in the books and there were not any surprises and really only minimal excitement. The Excitement came when King Over Aces(IRE) and Wicked Wench(IRE) went head to head, with Wicked Wench leading most of the way. It wasn’t until the third call that it all fell apart for the Wench and she faded badly. That left an easy win for the King and he cruised to a three lengths win. The sprinter Kandrakar was able to beat the track journeyman but that isn’t a good recommendation to his talents. Let’s face it, he wasn’t in the race from almost the moment he left the gates and came in for a show over twenty lengths back. Maybe the trainer will return him to the sprinting ranks again.

Another small field is slated for this Saturday’s running of the Squire Flirt Memorial. This race is named in honor of a solid horse that was able to notch sixteen wins in his career, but only managed one stakes coop. Maybe that is the reason for the poor turn out, the trainers can not take a stakes race seriously when the track does not honor the top horses. This is something that the members of WHOA are constantly bringing to the attention of the WRC only to have these reminders flow past deaf ears. Of course, having two nine and a half furlong turf races in a row could also be the reason behind the mild interest. Still there are five solid sophomores that have shown up that have the potential of making a very competitive race. So lets take a look at who will be racing.

Bigtate Fort entered by bigtate02. On the inside lane comes a horse with an allowance win to his credit. He has plenty of stamina but seems to lack a certain amount of heart. He is a consistent runner that likes to come from behind when he can. That has not been often of late, but still has plenty of stakes experience and that will be to his advantage. He will be looking to rebound after a disastrous result in a G1 last time out.

Big Wide World(IRE) entered by beefcake1. This Irish lad comes in with the highest odds of the race at a measly 3-1. He has stretched out the last couple of outings to Saturday’s distance and has shown a steady improvement. He is not a horse with much flash and has a workman’s attitude when racing that can surprise a lot of racers if they are not paying attention and looking past him. He likes to set the pace and will most likely be sent out to do so this weekend.

Wonderboy Edge entered by wonder5. This sophomore comes in already having a stakes win at this distance. He returns to the grass after a couple of graded dirt races with mixed results. Bouncing back and forth between turf and dirt recently could be a little unsettling for the young colt and he can be glad to have the steady hand of top jockey Jesse Sands in the irons. He is a late closer and that could be a problem in this race.

Milwauke Brewector entered by philipp. After starting out the year on a sour note this sophomore has notched two wins in a row on sloppy sod. The colt has been making big strides in improvement this year and hoping to live up to all the early hype on him. He is also a pace setter and this could be the makings of a fast race. Hot jockey, John Dawg, will be in the irons for this Saturday and is hoping to keep the winning streak alive.

Gallic Charm(FR) entered by alba1. It is very seldom that a French bred horse makes an appearance in Wyoming but this fellow is a good representative. He comes into the race the early favorite and has clocked the best speeds of the group. He likes to stalk the pace and is set up to be in a good position to use this on Saturday. Unfortunately he has drawn a jockey who has been struggling all season and this could derail French horse’s quest for silverware.
