Aptispect shows Aptitude for Queens Key stakes

Well folks, this hack is off to perform a full frontal lobotomy!!

The Queen’s Key memorial stakes looks to have thrown up a nice winner, it just wasn’t the one I, and the market, expected. Here’s a rundown of events for anyone who backed the winner.

Needs more cowbell broke smartly from stall 3 and quickly tracked across to the rails. B Shardein looked to be very happy, giving her a little rein and letting his filly bowl along at a nice pace. She had put nearly three lengths between herself and the field by the time they hit the turn and looked to have the race in the bag, if her previous good form was anything to go on. Ok so the trackers were still going nicely, but this filly was the proven class of the race, she’d hold on from here wouldn’t she?

Obviously Aptispect hadn’t read the script. She broke well enough and was sitting second from flag fall. M Sheridan seemed happy to let the favourite lead, which was expected, but as the pace wound up and he still sat stock still in the plate, the crowd wondered if he was being a little too confident. He obviously knew more than the watchers however, because as they rounded the home turn, he’d reduced the deficit to under a length without seeming to do much, and when he let out a reef, his charge bolted past Needs more cowbell as though the two times stakes winner was standing still. The race was over in a matter of strides and the Aptitude filly recorded a facile success.

Beyer broke well and quickly took up a comfortable position on the shoulder of Aptispect. L Luffe seemed content with his filly and she held the pace of the race nicely, looking right at home in the stakes arena. Closing on the favourite, and still watching Aptispect, she was left flat footed when that filly quickened off the turn. She kept on nicely however, and passed the favourite inside the final furlong without ever really troubling the winner.

Classic arse, while not making a complete one of herself, never really got into the race, in a meaningful manner, she was beaten 7 lengths and may need to look for an easier opportunity next time, as these three seemed to have her measure.

In summary, a nice race run by nice fillies who could go on to nice things; that’s nice.

Aptispect certainly looks like one to follow, and her sp of 88 was recorded in an easy manner. There looks to be more in the tank.
