Parejo Penta-Perfect

SgtBones’ Parejo maintained his undefeated record by winning the Grade III Renewal Rates Stakes in Pennsylvania on Saturday.  As in all of his starts, he stalked the pace early and rode off to win convincingly over the sloppy surface.

This was the second stakes race and first graded race for the three year old son of Scenic.

Parejo was able to score a three digit speed figure for the first time in his brief career.  He has won sprints and routes and on fast, good, and sloppy surfaces.

With the win, he has established himself as a top three year old; however with his lack of experience he will not qualify to run in the upcoming Bluegrass Derby.

Super Coverup, the place horse, also won’t qualify for the Derby despite having beaten several that will be.  The TaleofCat9 colt earlier this year beat Peacenik, who looms as one of the derby favorites, and today he finished ahead of the third place colt, Triska’s Remember Tampero and the fourth place Depravity out of the Funster  stable.  The latter two horses remain on the bubble for qualifying for the Derby.

The top two horses were able to use their stalking style to win the Renewal Rates by sitting behind the anticipated speed duel waged by I Did My Time and Ditch Filler.  Those two battled it out for a half before fading to finish sixth and eleventh in the 12 horse field.
