Queen Key memorial stakes
Hello racegoers and welcome to a warm Easter Saturday here in
Whilst the 7 ½ furlong turf sprint for 3 y o fillies has not attracted a large field, they all look like nice horses who will hopefully show their best running now that they can feel the late spring sun on their backs. With a 70 k purse on offer, all four should enrich their bank balances for the afternoons work.
In stall 1 is a daughter of
Immediately to her right, in stall 2 is Classic Arse. This hack could spend all day looking at a classic arse, but let’s stick to the horses shall we. By Louis Quatorze out of a Kingmambo mare, this filly has changed hands several times during her 11 race career and is currently trained by dtheone. She has been campaigned at various distances, and on both surfaces with some regularity, and recent speeds of 81 and 76 suggest that she likes this sort of distance on turf. This being the case, she could give K Greenwell a nice ride despite being the 9/2 outsider of four.
The jolly old favourite runs from stall 3 and Needs More Cowbell looks like a worthy even money shot. The only stakes winner in the field, this Beat Hollow filly has been a credit to trainer Singhis. She won three times at two, including two stakes wins, and also ran creditably in a couple of group races. Her first run as a 3 y o was in the Equinics, and when she was well beaten in a relatively poor time a few heads were scratched. She bounced back with a very nice sp of 89 and 3rd place in the Raise Pump challenge stakes in her last race and if B Schardein can settle her on or near the lead she really should take al the beating.
On the outside of the field in stall 4, although no outsider in the betting, 9/5 second favourite Aptispect will likely track the favourite inside her. A beautifully bred daughter of Aptitude out of a Mr prospector mare, she ran a nice 2nd of 6 in the Fiery Kitten bonanza stakes three back. She has only been out of the first 2 twice from 8 starts on turf, and definitely seems to save her best running for this surface. I would guess that trainer mrfu2 would like to see someone take the favourite on up front so that M Sheridan can settle her and track the pace, before steadily winding up the pressure from halfway.
Well that’s the small but select field for the days feature race, and I hope everyone really enjoys themselves. If the jockeys lay off the Easter eggs, there should be a good contest, and let’s hope they all give their running and come back sound. For the record I think Needs More Cowgirl will beat Beyer with Aptispect third, but as a tipster I make a good brain surgeon! Good luck to all involved.
