Swift G Special Stakes

Welcome to the Easter coverage of the Swift G Special Stakes here in Athens. We have an interesting field assembled here for this feature race which is over the mile and one sixteenth on the firm turf course and is open to all horses who are 4 year old and up and is worth $70,000.

A small field of 8 has been assembled so lets take a look….

#1 Dr Raider trained by Sigone: Nice horse by furiously and has won 7 of 31 starts. Makes a return to stakes company this week after a spell in the allowance ranks. He has solid speed figures particularly with a 103 speed figure over the 9 furlongs 6 starts back and good form over this type of distance and looks to be a solid threat for the first prize cheque at the end.

#2 Unreasonable trained by Monopoly: Nicely bred horse by Crafty Prospector and has won 3 from 20 starts. Just held out last time out over the 9 furlongs and prior to that did not appreciate the off track and Grade II company of the Buddy Boy Mile. Will definitely appreciate the firm track and drop in class and the slightly shorter distance will also suit. Great chance.

#3 Top Bloke trained by Johann: Solid horse by Danzig Connection and has won 12 from 64 starts to date. His last win was 5 starts back over this distance but his form has tapered since then and with speed figures in the mid 80’s it will be a struggle here for this guy but he is not without a chance on his best form.

#4 Wolf Mackenzie trained by Bigmoose2. By the mighty sire Deputy Minister and definitely looks to be a great chance on breeding alone but has won 3 of 10 starts and is lightly raced for a 4yo. Makes his first appearance in stakes company and he has picked a nice place for him, looks to like the lead and should get there easily as there appear to be no other natural leaders in the race. Speed figures are solid in the high 90’s and he will definitely be one to catch in the stretch.

#5 Our Star T trained by March2nd: Nice horse by Sandlot Start but does have the mighty Storm Cat as the dam sire. Has won 3 from 29 races and has a great stakes pedigree with 6 of his past 7 races at this level. He also drops back from a Grade III race to this stakes level here so the drop in class will suit, having said that he has not won for 7 starts so will need to find that winning form again. Speed figures are in the low 90’s but they give him a chance to place here.

#6 Suave Mount trained by Iant6: From and Australian perspective this is super breeding, by the mighty Danehill from a Nureyev mare. Has won 9 from 26 races and graduates from allowance company to stake class for the first time. Not before time too as he has super form and deserves his chance at this higher level. Has won over this distance with a 98 speed figure and will look to get to the front and will prove hard to run down.

#7 Film Patrol trained by Catamount1: Nice horse here and by Theatrical and has won 7 from 24 starts. Makes the step back to stakes company this week but there is something interesting that stands out in his form. I think that the distance is the big query for this guy, each of his past 3 runs over the 8.5 furlongs he has been well held, looks like a mile is his limit. Just on that fact I think he could be a place chance at best here.

#8 Crimson Prospector trained by Marianus: Super breeding here after reading Knightmares breeding corner in the BTB yesterday about Red Ransom. This guy is by Red Ransom with Mr. Prospector as the dam sire and Nijinsky II as the dam’s dam sire, simply what a mix. Definitely has ability with a solid win last time out over the 9 furlongs after a drop to a dirt sprint for some reason following a super win over the 12 furlongs on turf. This guy looks a huge threat.

An interesting race with a few chances. Going to go for #2 Unreasonable to win from #8 Crimson Prospector and #6 Suave Mount for third.

Good luck to all.

Simon
