Unamazingness wins…at an amazing price

Down in the other part of the world there was another Bluegrass Derby prep taking place. The feature for this weekend in France was the Grade I The Green Monkey Stakes, at an eight and a half furlongs distance over the fast dirt course. And it was our Upset Pick, Unamazingness, who came away with the victory, at odds of 11-1, displaying an impressive turn of foot down the stretch to prove much the best over this field. The winner is out of Unbridled’s Song in a Kris S. mare and improved his lifetime record to 8-4-1-2, with earnings of $593,190 for trainer mardigras.

At the start of the race, Tale of Auror, Lockitineddie and The Ironist endulge themselves in an early battle for the lead, with Baldo Hollandia stalking from the rail. The winner at this stage was way back in the group, just better than one at that point. The leaders continued their fight, but were able to go thru fairly easy fractions and had plenty of stamina left for the final push. At the top of the stretch Tale of Auror was holding to a narrow lead, but Unamazingness was coming like a train at the grandstand side, taking the lead and drawing away with ease in the last jumps. Clan of the Cat came from the middle of the pack to earn second, while the early leader Tale of Auror was a very game third. The time of the race was an average 1:42:2/5.
