Moneygrowsontrees flies in the stretch to win the South Bronx

It was a gorgeous day in the Big Apple, but the lack of rain in the area made the track extremely deep, favorable to way back closers, as happened in the Grade III South Bronx Stakes. Deputy Goldseeker was able to grab an easy early lead, but the track did not help his chances, and the closers took control. Moneygrowsontrees came with a flourish in the final three furlongs and took the lead in the last strides to win the Grade III event..

The winner is a son of Forestry out of a Mr. Prospector mare and improved his lifetime record to 10-4-2-0, with earnings of $281,910 for trainer cheadle. The time for the seven furlongs was an average 1:22:1/5.

Deputy Goldseeker led from the start and drew away with ease along the early stages of the race. G Code and Fusaichi Flyer served as escorts early, but both of them dropped back to the tail. The winner was on the last flight, some ten lengths behind the leader, but started his rally at the three eights pole, accelerating quickly down the final furlong and easily overtaking the leaders. Lunar Cleansing just edged the early leader for the place spot.
