The Dayton Storm Memorial

The 6 Furlong Dayton Storm Memorial was run this past Saturday in Upper New York by a field of 5 3yo fillies.  At postime the betting public could not decide on a favorite and sent two of them I’ve Got Soul and Xenophobe off co-favored at 2/1 with the longshot listed at less than 5/1.

When the gates opened Miss Bailey (AUS) sprinted to a quick early lead with Knight’s Mare directly to her inside and I’ve Got Soul the co-favorite just to her outside.  As they headed down the backside things stayed pretty much the same way with just a length seperating those three.  As the headed into the far turn Knight’s Mare made a bid for the lead and shortened the small gap just a bit.  Miss Bailey (AUS) felt the pressure and jockey C.Orza let her out a notch.  When they straightened away for the stretch drive Miss Bailey had shaken loose by more than a length and continued to draw of winning in a hand ride to capture the feature by 2 lengths.  I’ve Got Soul wore down Knight’s Mare for the place position.

Congratulations to trainer Michaelb on his Stakes Victory. This was Miss Bailey’s (AUS) third career win all in Stakes Company and boost’s her lifetime earnings to $141,766 in 12 lifetime starts.  Join us next week for the Abdul En La Future Stakes which will have 3yo’s going a mile on the Turf Course.
