New York’s Last Jump

Welcome to New York and the next to last race on today’s full card of races.  Our next is the GIII Last Jump Handicap, a race of a mile and an eighth for Fillies and Mares, 3 years old and up, on a Fast Dirt main course.  A field of 12 fillies and mares has shown up today so let’s see who’s here…

First up, in P1, is #44 Bubblegum Rock (IRE), a 4 year old light grey filly owned by highpoint by El Prado (IRE) based on Heavy Metal (Seeking The Gold x Northern Dancer) and is 20/4-3-2 lifetime.  It seems this gal seems to appreciate 8-8.5 fl races more than 9fl, because of 5 races 9fl and up, she has only finished in the bps once.  Seeing that, it doesn’t inspire much confidence that she can nail this field, along with the fact that she seems to be in a bit of a slump right now.  She will have to climb out of that and overcome her distance issues if she wants to be in on the action here today.  She is off at odds of 10/1 and has jock B. Child in the saddle.

Next, in PP2, we have #45491 Edge Hopper.  She is a jake trained 5 year old brown mare by Danzig out of Lazy Buda (Event Of The Year x Alydar) and is 33/18-6-3 lifetime.  This big mare is a very solid competitor, including some stakes wins at this distance.  She also has the speed enough to handle some of the others in this race and is coming off a hot streak including a third in a G3 a few races back.  She is a real solid shot at being up there with them today.  She is starting at 5/1 and is ridden by N. Gibson.

Next up, in PP3, is #94334 Northerly Nicole, a 4 year old skirom trained brown filly by Dynaformer out of North Stock (Sunday Silence x Far North) and is 19/7-5-3 lifetime.  This filly is coming off of several consecutive stakes races, with the last two being graded events, where she finished 2nd and 3rd.  She has shown that she’s got the speed and the ability to go this distance, so she is another solid choice here today.  She is at odds of 7/1 and has jockey P. Davis in the irons.

In PP4, is #61000 Cryptoblonde, a snowchief owned 4 year old brown filly by Cryptoclearance based on Broad A La Blonde (Touch Gold x At Talaq) and is 20/6-2-3 lifetime.  This horse has been a very solid allowance runner for her owner, and finally made a foray into stakes races 3 races back, and has been improving ever since, winning one last time out.  This will be her first graded run and she has drawn into some good company.  She is off at 10/1 and is ridden by Ax Williams.

Next, in PP5, is #80725 Arrivals.  She is a 3 year old chestnut graz628 owned filly by A.P. Indy out of Arrival Again (Arazi x Alysheba) and is 5/1-2-0 lifetime.  Here is the tenderfoot of the bunch, being only 3 and having only 5 races under her belt.  She only made her first stakes run last time out, finishing 5th, but her speeds have not been as good as some of the more seasoned runners here today.  That, along with the fact that this will be her first try at this distance, will make this a tough race for her and she still has a lot of proving to do.  She is off at 78/1 and has jockey R. Foster in the saddle.

Next up, in PP6, we have #63426 Matroni Et Moi, a frosty trained 5 year old chestnut mare by Cat Thief out of a mare by Raja Baba and is 18/6-3-2 lifetime.  Another solid allowance runner, she is also developing into a decent nongraded stakes runner, but her two graded stakes tries were not very confidence inspiring, but both were in G1 company.  I caught up with her trainer who says “she got off her schedule a while back right before that open stakes in Sweden, and it screwed up her form big time”, and it appears she might have a point there.  She can handle some of the other runners here today, but might find it difficult to out run the rest.  She is starting with odds of 9/1 and is ridden by R. Haffner.

Coming up next, in PP7, is #32639 Swift Kick, a 4 year old sdmf2 trained chestnut filly by Summer Squall out of a Crafty Prospector mare and is 19/8-5-1 lifetime.  This obviously talented filly is a multiple stakes and graded stakes winner, including 3 G1 in a row late last year, including the Breeders Bowl Distaff.  She is definitely a tough competitor, despite the bad race she threw last time out.  She is going to be a tough one ot get around here today.  She is the favorite here today at 7/2 and is being ridden by N. Painter.

In PP8, we have #92071 Aka Gray T.  She is a 4 year old chestnut filly owned by shanx and sired by Akaaber out of Elrod’s Coyote (Regal Search x Alleged) and is 18/2-5-2 lifetime.  This filly seems to prefer allowance races to stakes, as her past performances can attest.  She can handle today’s distance, but her speeds will not be enough to take on a lot of the other girls in this race.  She is off at odds of 27/1 and has jock A. Tuten in the irons.

Next, in PP9, we have #54874 English Bark.  She is an 8 year old tazenshag owned brown mare by Gone West out of an Affirmed bred mare and is 43/14-5-8 lifetime.  The oldest mare in today’s race, she’s still spry and going strong at 8 years old.  She placed in a stakes race last time out and has won graded events, but most of her latest successes came last year.  She should have enough speed to at least finish in the bps here today.  She is starting with odds of 6/1 and is ridden by N. Lawton.

Up next, in PP10, is #23286 Giant Hopes (IRE), a gipper4 owned 5 year old brown mare by Giant’s Causeway (IRE) based on Pete Niner (Forty Niner x Jungle Savage) and is 30/7-3-3 lifetime.  This is another one today that seems to be more comfortable in the allowance ranks, even though she has had some stakes success earlier in her career.  Her last graded start was back during her 3 year old season, and her form has slacked off a bit of late.  To get in the money here, I’m thinking she needs to revert back to old form.  She is off at 9/1 and has jockey S. Israel in the saddle.

In PP11, is #88326 Answer Back T, a 4 year old graceful owned brown filly by Almostashar out of a Time To Explode mare and is 6/3-0-2 lifetime.  This lightly raced 4 year old is developing well, but has only two stakes starts under her belt, with only a 3rd to her credit.  She also appears to prefer miles to anything over that at this point.  Her speeds have been ok, but needs to improve a lot to have a shot here today.  She is at odds of 18/1 and is being ridden by P. Hilton.

And, last but not least, in PP12, we have #64313 Forty Winx.  She is a 4 year old brown filly owned by foxon3, by Forty Niner out of a mare by Nijinsky II and is 26/9-4-3 lifetime.  Here is another stakes winning filly, but most of those wins came during her 2 and early 3 year old seasons, although she won a stakes last time out at today’s distance.  However, her graded races haven’t shown too much, so she will have to work to get home in front today.  She is off at odds of 6/1 and has jockey A. Roberts taking up the reins.

We have here a collection of established and up-and-coming talents, but only one of these can win here today.  I like the 2, the 3, the 6, the 7, and the 9 to round out my top 5, but not necessarily in that particular order.  This will be a tough race for everyone so, Good Luck and Good Racing!
