Is it Time for WALLY WORLD in South Dakota?

The South Dakota Oaks Stakes
Grade IIA mile on Fast Dirt
$250,000
Fillies and mares, 3 years old

It still feels like winter here in South Dakota but we have some young fillies that are ready to heat it up and point toward those big races of Spring. You can bet that the crowd will be warmed up and ready for the South Dakota Oaks, the final race on our card on Saturday. The weather seems to be cooperating, it will be cool but sunny so we should have some nice fractions. Let’s take a look:

1 – WINNING SEASON ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
8/1CDragon18.5% S.Green 9% 94.5 88.86

(LEMON DROP KID x PRIVATE ACCOUNT x THE MINSTREL) Four wins in ten outings and nearly half a million dollars in earnings shows that this nice looking filly is one to be reckoned with. She stumbled a bit in her last outing but was looking strong in the two before that. The rail won’t help much as she likes to drop back at the bell anyway. Hopefully she will be able to work her way through the crowd and not get boxed in from there.

2 – CAPOEIRA(IRE) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
15/1Noia21.2% N.Owen 3% 94.6 80.0230

(THEATRICAL(IRE) x SADLER’S WELLS x BUCKPASSER) I’m not sure that the morning line is giving this little chestnut filly the credit that she is due. She ran a really nice race the last time out with a win and a 94 SPF in the Silver Act Challenge Stakes. Trainer Noia has a nice win percentage and seems to be bringing this girl along just right. She likes the distance and the inside post will keep her near the lead where she likes to sit right behind the rabbits. Could be a surprise here.

3 – GENNA LOU HOO ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
6/1Marilyn84721.9% A.Arbuckle 9% 96.3 89.197

(RAHY x GONE WEST x SUMMER SQUALL) With the name that sounds like a children’s song this young filly has been really coming around lately. Her past four races have all been in the 90 SPF-wise and she has been in the top three in eight of her eleven races. The only worry here is that trainer Marilyn847 has only sent her out over a mile one time and that was her worst race. She needs to step it up if she is going to contend at this distance.

4 – LIE TO ME ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
8/1PointGiv10.0% A.Tucci 8% 95.1 87.051

(ROCK SLIDE x SADLER’S WELLS x GINISTRELLI) This chestnut filly out of Dam Mango Lois has been up and down a bit but generally has been very solid. She and trainer PointGiv1 can’t seem to figure out exactly what distance she likes the best but the mile may do the trick. She is in the the capable hands of jockey Tucci who is known for guiding young horses. She would like to improve here and move into the Top 50 in rankings.

5 – WALLY’S DEHERE ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
7/1DOA7.4% F.Leghorn 15% 100.9 90.620

(DEHERE x FORTY NINER x PROUDEST ROMAN) Wally’s Dehere and trainer DOA are due a break. After two outstanding GI races in her past two with a 99 and 100 SPF she has two seconds to show for her efforts. That wins a huge majority of the time and now they are not even the ML favorite. This pretty filly seems to like both the sprints and classic distances and just likes to run. She has rookie jockey “Foghorn” Leghorn in the saddle and he has been strutting his stuff with a nice win percentage at the track. They should make it interesting.

6 – DIXIELAND SLAM ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
15/1ProfitThis4.5% G.Thom 8% 92.0 86.8156

(GRAND SLAM x DIXIELAND BAND x PINE BLUFF) ProfitThis’ southern filly is looking for a breakout race. She has been holding her own in the Graded races she has run the past couple of times out but needs that close to triple digit speed figure to really break it out and put her on the path. She likes the distance and drew and nice spot. She needs to stay nearer the lead at the start and jockey Thom will try to guide her there.

7 – INDIAN WHISKEY ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
18/1QuietGrind33.3% A.Boyst 3% 87.6 81.8149

(INDIAN CHARLIE x CURE THE BLUES x HAIL TO REASON) After a three race Stakes win streak, this QuietGrind filly entered the Graded circuit and found it a bit more challenging. She seems to be happier at shorter distances as well so this could be a tough outing. The stretching out may help her in sprint Stakes races down the road though so the experience may be worth it.

8 – GROOMED TO ROMP T ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
15/1Pick60.0% M.Pleasant 13% 91.0 83.021

(GONE WEST x BLUSHING GROOM(FR) x CREME DELA CREME) Young chestnut fillies seem to be the rule in this race and this one is no exception. She was also exceptional until the past two races where she finished dead last. Prior to that she was always among the first three across the line. Trainer Pick6 is scratching his head but can only figure that the extra distance in the past two, though slight was enough to throw her off. She is back at a mile now and hopefully back on track and ready to go. She has a good jockey in the irons in Pleasant and wouldn’t be a surprise to challenge here.

9 – FLAT FOUR ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
20/1Bodgit28.6% T.Price 16% 90.3 83.3242

(RAHY x SPINNING WORLD x MISWAKI) This offspring of successful brood mare FLAT WORLD has finished either first or second in her past six races. This will however, be her first Stakes outing and she has chosen a challenging field to go up against the first time. She will need to up her SPF a bit as a 90 is her best to date. She likes the distance and has a successful and experienced jockey in the saddle in Price so it’s not too much of a stretch to see a successful Stakes debut.

10 -ZYTOWN ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
5/1Zyro3.1% F. Johnson 0% 98.6 91.33

(SPEIGHTSTOWN x STREET CRY (IRE) x ANABAA) Trainer Zyro is hoping to see his prized filly go over $1 million in earnings this week. She has done everything that she’s been asked in winning seven of her previous eleven races and is a multiple Graded winner including a GI at the Equinics two back. The only blemish is her last outing in the California Oaks where she proved at least a little bit vulnerable when she stumbled a bit out of the gate and never looked comfortable finishing seventh. I expect a better effort here and she is tough to bet against.

11 – BENNY BEING BENNY ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
17/1EBryant43.8% D.Zordich 26% 92.4 87.0N/A

(MORE THAN READY x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x DANEHILL) This big filly is undefeated although it has only been in two races. She won both her maiden and first allowance race and would like to continue that streak in her first Stakes outing. It is certainly not out of the question as she has shown nice speed and a big heart in her previous two. Her Daddy was MORE THAN READY and it appears that she is more than ready herself. She has the best jock at the track up in Zordich and deserves better odds than the Morning Line has attached.

12 – YOU THOUGHT WRONG ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
16/1Super1911.1% B.Sullivan 11% 89.0 83.167

(POINT GIVEN x STORM BIRD x BUCKPASSER) I love this filly’s name and I also love to watch her run. She has been successful in her prevous Stakes races but will need to bump up her speed a bit to compete on the Graded circuit. There is no reason to believe that won’t happen as she has finished in the top three in seven of her nine races and seems to bring her game up to the competition. Trainer Super19 has put her in the hands of Sullivan whose 11 years of jockey experience should help this young filly.

13 – ESPRESSO D’ITALIA ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
7/1LastHope110.8% V.Berwick 10% 95.8 87.817

(MEDAGLIA D’ORO x MISWAKI x SEEKING THE GOLD) I always get an urge for a Starbucks when I’m around this filly for some reason. I’m not sure if it’s the name or the dark coffee color. Regardless, she is one of the top three year old fillies at this distance and the others in the field had better not stop to smell the coffee or she will flash by them. Trainer LastHope1 has been trying to get her to start the race a bit closer to the front as her burst of speed from the way back has been just falling short lately. We will see if that works in this race.

14 – WAVE GOODBYE ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
11/1AlbaRace04.8% Ti.Friar 4% 98.2 86.265

(GOODBYE DOENY x DE BRAAK x AZIRAE) The kind of filly that is certainly making trainer AlbaRace0 a little crazy as she has ping-ponged in her past four with a second, eleventh, first and eighth. More consistency is what is needed and hopefully that will start here. If not, it is supposed to be an up week in the roller coaster and she seems to like the mile distance the best.

Morning Line = 10-3-5-13-1-4
Yoss Tipsheet = 3-5-10-13
Paz Picks = 5-10-3-13
Just to show how tough this race is to handicap, the Morning Line, Yoss Tipsheet and I have all picked a different winner. That VERY rarely happens! I like PRO ESPRESSO D’ITALIA to finish fourth and she is strong enough to easily make the top three. I may regret this but I worry about the distance for GENNA LOU HOO so I’m sticking her in third. ZYTOWN is almost impossible to pick against but I think she will happily setlle for second this time as the young lady that is ready to make a statement to the racing world this week is WALLY’S DEHERE . She’s on her game and I don’t see anyone beating her.

Good luck to all runners!
