7 Fillies Entered in Grade III Juvenile Feature

A field of 7 2YO fillies are entered in the Grade III Dr Shut-Yer-Lips Juvenile to be run as the 15th race feature at Missouri today. The fillies will be going a distance of 7.5 furlongs and will be chasing the top prize of the $125,000 purse. At close look this field is very inexperienced and the race is really just a non winners of 2 allowance with all but one entry with just the one win and the seventh runner yet to break her maiden.

This filly took two tries at the MSW ranks to break her maiden, doing so in her latest 7 weeks ago while posting a 73 speed rating over 6 furlongs. She has a low percentage jockey aboard and will need a good trip to reap any benefit of her closing style. There is not alot of speed to run at in this race and if the pace is slow it could hurt her chances here.

2)MOONLIT BAYšš 6/1ššš OWNER:POPPUPšš JOCKEY:F HUEY(15%)šš MALIBU MOON X FUSAICHI PEGASUS X AFFIRMEDšš HIGH SPEED RATING:72ššš RUNNING STYLE:STALKER

This filly also took two tries at MSW to win her first race doing so with a 72 speed rating over 7.5 furlongs. She is one of only two entries that have raced at least as long as today’s distance and that could help her in the final stages of this race. Above average jockey aboard will help this one stay close to the pace and ready to pounce in the stretch.

3)COLORADO DESERTšš 5/2šš OWNER:LASTHOPEšš JOCKEY:S ERICKSON (8%)šš STORM CAT X SADLER’S WELLS X MR PROSPECTORšš HIGH SPEED RATING:83šš RUNNING STYLE:SPEED/STALKER

This filly is by far the most experienced of the group having already run in 5 races lifetime including two grades stakes efforts. She broke her maiden in her 3rd lifetime start in a owner restricted allowance race and has since finished 5th in the Grade II Vermont BB Juvenile Filly and 3rd 4 weeks ago in the Grade III Fast Lane Stakes where she posted a race best 83 speed rating over 6.5 furlongs. That race was run on the turf and it will be interesting to see if the turf to dirt improvement shows here or if this one will be a better runner on the grass over the dirt. She has speed and can either race up front or just behind the leaders. An average jockey is aboard.

This filly broke her maiden in her last start 4 weeks ago posting a 79 speed rating over the 6.5 furlong race. She had finished 4th in her debut race prior to that. She should be closed to the leaders in this race and has the services of an average jockey. While not completely sure why this filly was made morning line favorite over the #3 entry, if she shows continued improvement in her 3rd lifetime start she would be very dangerous in here today.

This filly broke her maiden on her 3rd MSW try albeit her lifetime debut was a disappointing effort on the dirt and she has run on the dirt ever since. In her last race 4 weeks ago she finished 3rd in The Bottle Smoke Stakes posting a 76 speed rating in the 6 furlong race. She has the services of the top jockey today who will have to settle her in early and then make use of her closing speed.

6)SINGA SADSONGšš 8/1šš OWNER:PRYFROCKšš JOCKEY:L HABIB(12%)šš DIXIELAND BAND X PULPIT X GUILDED TIMEšš HIGH SPEED RATING:70šš RUNNING STYLE:SPEED

This filly won her debut MSW race and then came back 5 weeks ago to finish 4th in a NW2L allowance race while running a 8.5 furlong route. Her speed rating went down from 70 to 64 in her last and by cutting back in distance here today may make her a little more competitive. She is a front runner but could not last to the wire last time out and will need all the talents of above average jockey today to keep the fractions in line so that she can last up to the wire.

This filly has still yet to break her maiden finishing 5th and 2nd respectively in her 2 lifetime starts. Poor jockey aboard will have to give her a good trip in order to make use of her closing style.

7 well bred but inexperienced fillies entered here today. I am going to bank on #3 COLORADO DESERT’s experience shining through here today and will give her the nod for the win. I am looking for #2 MOONLIT BAY to show some improvement here, especially after having already run at today’s distance for 2nd and #4 GIANTFLY’S MAMBO for third.
