Bargie Day Part III The Conclusion
As we enter the home stretch for the Bargies I want to say that the Bargain Bred Racing Series is open to the entire sim. We welcome new players and you can jump in any time during our racing season. We have races about every 3-4 weeks between March and November. Most weeks have two year old maiden races which is a good entry point. There are very specific rules for the series in regards to breeding regulations.
Long Distance Dirt
This division consists of the mile and a half Stayer, the mile and three quarters Hinterland, the mile and three eighths Ko Ko Shan and the mile and a half Distance Challenge. This division was dominated by the five year old mare Bad Line. Bad Line is a deep closer and she got the year going in the Stayer by running down White Water Rafter by a quarter of a length. Next in the Hinterland she again closed from well off the pace to catch the salty seven year old mare Plum Lad by half a length.
In the Ko Ko Shan only three other runners faced her and she made easy work of the field winning by almost three lengths. She had divisional honors wrapped up going into the Bargain Bowl Bargain Distance Challenge. She once again closed well catching sever year old colt Woftam Star to win by three quarters of a length finishing up a great season.
Bad Line takes home the Bargie winning all four races. Congrats to the riverridge stables and Bad Line’s great season. She was the only four time winner in 2013.
Long Distance Turf
This division is made up of the mile and five eighths Kings Thirteen, the mile and a half Arc De Maleleve, the two mile Wombat Cup, and the mile and a half Johns Call. The Kings Thirteen came down to pace setting Otara Rio and stalking Desert Air. Otara Rio held off Desert Air to take the first race in the division. The Arc was all about Ghost with a Heart. He stalked the pace and was strong in the stretch winning by three and a half lengths. Three year olds Arcano Opera and E Z E finished second and third.
In the Wombat Cup Otara Rio was there to set the pace. E Z E was sixteen lengths off the pace and made up the ground steadily as Otara Rio needed all of her twelve length lead as she entered the stretch to win by just three quarters of a length over E Z E. The stage was set for an Otara Rio and E Z E show down in the Johns Call but Basilisk Isles ran for the first time in the series and as the heavy favorite lead every step of the way. Strange Odyssey at forty to one ran on second with Otara Rio in third and E Z E in fourth.
The Bargie goes to Otara Rio. He had two wins and a third to earn 26 divisional points. Basilisk Isles was second with 15 points. Congrats to the Hawkz stables for collecting another Bargie.
Filly and Mare Turf
This division consists of the mile and sixteenth Bluebonnet, the mile and an eighth Bargain Princess, the mile and a quarter Over Highland and the mile and three sixteenths Vimes Turf Distaff. Sing us a Song and Deja Kip got the year rolling with a thrilling stretch run where Sing us a Song ran down Deja Kip to win by a head. Grande Ole Time had the lead at the top of the stretch and held on for third.
In the Bargain Princess Grand Ole Time stepped up stalked the pace and pulled away to a length and a half victory over Billet A. As the Over Highland rolled around three year old filly Hyrrokkin got on track winning gate to wire over Otara Cent and Desert Air. In the Bargain Bowl Vimes Turf Distaff Hyrrokkin did it again going gate to wire virtually un challenged to win by three and a half lengths over Grand Ole Time. Steam Table Ham ran on to get third.
We have co Bargie winners. Hyrrokkin won her only two races in the division earning 25 points; Grand Ole Time had a win a second, third and fourth dancing every dance also earning25 points. Congrats to Planoaxius who trains Hyrrokkin and Mtk stables who trains Grand Ole Times.
Middle Distance Turf
This division is made up of the mile and three sixteenths Hunt Turf Cup, the mile and a quarter Ten Lost Pyramids, the mile and an eighth Pearl Cup and the mile and a quarter Cougar Bite Classic. 2011 Cougar Bite Classic winner Al Centaine got 2013 off to a winning start as he stalked and pounced his way to a length and a half victory in the Hunt Turf Cup over Grand Ole Time and Housefullofghosts.
In the Ten Lost Pyramids It was Ghost With a Heart that ran on to a two length victory over Brilliant Notation. In the Pearl Cup three year old Arcano Opera showed his elders he was a force to be reckoned with. He set the pace and won the Pearl Cup by two and a quarter lengths. Then in the Bargain Bowl Cougar Bite Classic Arcano Opera backed up his Pearl Cup win with a dominating front running performance. He had a five length lead early and no one got within two and a half lengths of him the rest of the way. Brilliant Notation and Ghost With a Heart finished second and third.
The Bargie goes to Arcano Opera. This is his second Bargie as he earned three year old turf colt honors. Two wins earned him 25 divisional points putting him ahead of Ghost with a Heart who earned 16 points. Gowans stables train Arcano Opera congrats.
Filly Mare Dirt Classic
This division consists of the one mile Death Valley Distaff, the mile and sixteenth Summer Distaff, the mile and an eighth Slave to Tradition and the mile and an eighth Cemetery Winter Distaff. The season got started in the desert and distance runner Plum Lad took control at the top of the stretch and held off Misallocation and Albar. In the Summer Distaff we see a changing of the guard. There is a smaller field and some of the more familiar names were not there so three year old Tomato Grave was ready for a coming out party. Coming off her win in the Queens she set a quick pace and was loose early but newcomer Enque Panis said not so fast and ran her down at the wire.
The Slave to Tradition was next on the schedule and Tomato Gravy was ready again but this time once she got loose she did not get caught so Enque Panis had to settle for second. These two were poised for the show down at the Bargain Bowl in the Cemetery Winter Distaff. Everyone knew Tomato Gravy would set the pace and she did not disappoint. Three year old filly Macedonian Jig kept her a little honest on the pace but at the top of the stretch Tomato Gravy was loose by two and a half lengths with three year old Bargie winner Tough Karaka chasing her. It was too little too late as Tomato Gravy got the win with Tough Karaka second and Macedonian Jig third. Three year old fillies claimed the top three spots a definite sign of a changing of the guard.
The Bargie goes to Tomato Gravy who seemed to get better as the year went on and relish the little extra distance. She was second against the boys in the Derby Congrats to Planoaxius on another Bargie. This should be a highly contested division in 2014.
The Dirt Classic
This division consists of the mile and a sixteenth Death Valley Classic, the mile and an eighth Summer Classic, the mile and a quarter Copper Cup, and the mile and three sixteenths Bargain Bowl Classic. This may be the most contentious division in the series. It’s tough to be dominating in this division and the season started off that way in the Death Valley Classic. Shahanshah came a little out of nowhere to track down DTG and Can’t be Worse in the stretch to earn his first bargain series victory.
In the Summer Classic Five Demon rose to the occasion grabbing the early lead and cruised to a two and a half-length win over Mirage Drive and ShahanShah. Five Demon had placed in the Derby and Bronx as a three year old but this was his first win in the series. In the Copper Cup Five Demon would repeat his performance from the Summer Classic. He went to the early lead this time surviving a late charge from Wiri Rio. Five Demon was a heavy favorite coming into the Bargain Derby. He got the early lead but this time he could not hold off his competitors. Wiri Rio took over near the top of the stretch and Shea Inspired was in full flight. Wiri Rio was able to hold off Shea Inspired to the wire , Five Demon settled for third.
The Bargie goes to Five Demon. His two wins and a third earned him 26 divisional points. Wiri Rio’s Bargain Classic win made it close as he finished with 21 divisional points. Planoaxius walks away with another Bargie from another good runner congrats again.
Lifetime Bargies
We have some lifetime Bargies to hand out this year. This years’ class of retirees is really impressive. I have honored a couple of these by naming races after them. I cannot do each one of these runners justice however they deserve mention. These guys represent how these bargain runners hold their form for many years. These are the type of runners that just make this game a whole lot of fun.
Ten Lost Pyramids was a 19 time winner who earned just over a million dollars in purses. He was a 6 time winner in the Bargain Bred Racing Series. He won at the Bargain Bowl twice in the Cougar Bite Classic and won two Arcs. He was campaigned by Planoaxius and is possibly the best middle distance turf horse ever to run in the series.
Slave to Tradition will be the standard by which every filly and mare dirt runner will be compared. She was a 15 time winner over her career 11 of those on the Bargain Racing circuit. She won from six furlongs to nine and a half furlongs. She beat the boys three times and won the Bargain Bowl Cemetery Winter Distaff twice and danced a lot of dances over the years. She earned over a million dollars in purse money. Mtk had one heck of a mare who is arguably the best runner the series as seen.
Lot at Steak was a great turf mare. She won ten races in her career five of those in the Bargain Series. She beat the boys twice and was a two time Bargain Bowl day winner. She took the Vimes Turf Distaff and maybe more impressively as a 7 year old took the John’s Call against the boys. Hawkz trains a lot of bargain winners but I willing to bet Lot at Steak was one of his favorites.
The Wrap Up!!!
Hawkz took home the most Bargies with 6. Both Gowans and Planoaxius earned 3 Bargies. The 2013 year was great and we start the year off Saturday March 8, 2014. We have a lot of races for maidens but this year we also sponsored three grade two events in Louisiana. Hope those with stakes runner enjoy the graded action.
Again we welcome new players any time of year. For breeding rules visit the website, for discussion and entries join our message board. Here’s to a great bargain 2014!

Awesome article and thanks! Would also like to say hello to everyone and have fun!
A bit sad to see the legends retiring but the longevity they had was amazing. Will be fun to see some of their offspring in the offspring series.
I’ve read it with a bit delay, but thanks for these three articles. It is a great way how to spread glory of bargain racing. Congratulations to all bargies’ winners. I hope the 2014 season will be at least as remarkable as the one before.
