REASON FOR KRIS   (No Reason x Rahy x Kris S.)

Residency:  VERMONT

Owner:  pharaoh

This six year old daughter of No Reason attempts today’s one mile and three quarters distance for the first time as she’s never gone beyond twelve furlongs to date.  She’s been on the sidelines now since November 23^rd where she ran second in an eleven furlong allowance affair while hanging up a 103.  When at her best she sits just of the lead while pressing the pace and closes with vigor.  She will have to prove that she can get the distance at this level as others in here are more accomplished.

SCHAUSPIELHAUS   (Monsun (GER) x Theatrical x Kris S.)

Residency:  GR SIMSTERS

Owner:  lopic

This highly ranked four year old daughter of Monsun (GER) comes into this race on a five race winning streak within which she won the Grade 2 Enter The Hofbrahaus at twelve panels while putting up a 115.  In her latest she won in wire-to-wire fashion while winning a non-Graded Stakes race at today’s distance in defeating Grade 1 winner Greybelt.  Able to establish position early she was simply too much on that day and cruised to an easy win.  She will need to be challenged early here if this field has any hope of running her down in the stretch.

JACKSON DYNASTY   (Dynasty (SAF) x Cozzene x Gone West)

Residency:  SOUTH AFRICAN RACING ASSOCIATION (SARA)

Owner:  safrace4

This six year old daughter of Dynasty (SAF) can run all day long and comes into this race off a two mile effort in which she ran second after pressing the pace throughout.  Although her best days may be behind her she competes when in the mood and is always a threat to surprise though her trip in this spot will not be an easy one.

CANTERBURY QUEEN   (Deep Impact (JPN) x Nureyev x Mill Reef)

Residency:  EMPIRE STATE RACING

Owner:  kentred

This five year old daughter of Deep Impact (JPN) is looking to make a big one in this race as she’s been on a roll of late.  Two starts back in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Bowl Filly and Mare Turf she sat fourteen lengths behind at the half but found her stride late to rally with energy and finish second beaten just half a length.  She comes into this race off an easy allowance win to close out her four year old campaign and the added distance will only benefit given her running style.  She figures to be a strong contender today in this spot.

BANDSLAM   (Giant’s Causeway x A.P. Indy x Nijinisky 2nd)

Residency:  EAAA RACING

Owner:  kev

This gorgeous four year old daughter of Giant’s Causeway closed out her three year old season with three consecutive wins culminating with the Grade 3 Eye of the Sturm at today’s distance.  In that race she sat just off the pacemaker to the half and then rolled past to extend her lead throughout to win comfortably under a hand ride.  Well rested she opens her 2014 campaign here today and figures to be a major player in this spot.  I expect a bright future lies ahead for her regardless of today’s result and will be following with interest moving along.

MASTER OF PLAY   (Dalakhani x El Prado x Halo)

Residency:  COMEDY CENTRAL

Owner:  psyduck133

This four year old daughter of Dalakhani has been equally adept on both surfaces to date but has concentrated her efforts of late on the lawn with steady improvement.  She last ran in the twelve furlong Grade 2 Enter The Hofbrahaus Stakes where she finished a fast closing third to SCHAUSPIELHAUS who she meets in here again.  In each of her last three races she’s come up short at the line and today’s added distance will be welcomed by her connections as she looks to break through here.  She’ll be no surprise to this writer today if her improvement continues and a strong showing materializes.

K’S RIENDA SUELTA   (A.P. Indy x Sadler’s Wells x Gone West)

Residency:  SIM HISPANO

Owner:  matarile

This six year old daughter of A.P. Indy was rolling along having reeled off three consecutive wins with the last being in the Grade 2 Prix Royal.  In that race she simply ran away from a field that included two Grade 1 winners and several Graded Placed mares as well.  However it all came unraveled in her last outing that being the Grade 2 Miami Beach Stakes in which she absolutely despised the yielding surface.  It was her worst effort since her earliest days and can be forgiven as she looks to get back on track here.

NEGRA MATEA   (Sea The Stars (IRE) x Sadler’s Wells x Monsun (GER))

Residency:  UNIVERSAL RACING CLUB (URC)

Owner:  newmarket7

This four year old daughter of Sea The Stars (IRE) has been a highly competitive sort as she’s hit the board in each of her twelve career starts to date with half of those being wins.  Never having competed at the Graded level as yet she gets the acid test here after enjoying success in various minor Stakes events.  In her latest she competed in the non-Graded Race Series for grracers at today’s distance and hung up a 101 while finishing second beaten by four.  She’ll need to improve another rung if she hopes to breakthrough against this group.

EXTERNAL NOISE   (Lemon Drop Kid x Worldy Manner x A.P. Indy)

Residency:  CITY RACE RHEIN-MAIN TURF CLUB

Owner:  joe999

This five year daughter of the Lemon Drop Kid is the reigning Grade 1 Breeders’ Bowl Filly and Mare Turf Champion and comes into this race in fine fettle having finished second in a Grade 2 at twelve furlongs over a yielding course.  She hung up a 110 in that one and was caught late by a deep closer to be denied the win but looks to rebound here on the stretch out and her class will undoubtedly show today.  She’s a major contender in this spot.

ARGYLE FLEET   (Peintre Celebre x Footstepsinthesand x Seeking The Gold)

Residency:  QUEENSLAND

Owner:  doontown

Looking to surprise here in this spot is a first time graded starter by Peintre Celebre.  A winner of races to date this fiver year old mare will need to improve significantly to make her presence felt with this group.  On a positive note she has won twice at today’s distance in convincing fashion albeit against much easier.

SCRATCHED … FLINGING LOVE   (A. P. Arrow x Alleged x Hail To Reason)

Residency:  DELPENN

Owner:  beachcombr

A four year old daughter of A. P. Arrow she comes into this event off of two easy wins at the starter allowance level over shorter than she’ll need to navigate today.  This is her first go around with Graded company and the step up here is a large one given the caliber of this group.  A deep closer she’ll have speed to run at so fill her in on your exotic tickets and hope for the best!

SLAP THAT BASS   (North Light x Deep Impact (JPN) x Secretariat)

Residency:  MINNESOTA TESTBARN

Owner:  seattlesle

This lightly raced five year old daughter of North Light is a high percentage sort having won several by large margins over easier.  However she is on the improve as witnessed in her latest outing in the non-Graded The Test Drive Stakes over today’s distance of ground.  In that one she came from off the pace to close within three to finish second to Grade 2 winner SCHAUSPIELHAUS who she meets again today.  Prior to that race she blew through her conditions while reeling off five consecutive wins with two minor Stakes among her successes.  She’s a dark horse with a shot!

DEE PEN TABLE   (Pentire (GB) x Cozzzene x King Of Kings (IRE))

Residency:  EAST-WEST CONNECTION (EWC)

Owner:  tao

This six year old daughter of Pentire (GB) comes onto the turf in this spot from a winning effort on the dirt which for her is not so unusual having enjoyed success on both surfaces.  Interestingly she did so on the heels of two consecutive turf wins in which she wired the field in one and closed to win the other.  While her ratings were unimpressive she did beat a Grade 1 winner and several Graded Placed peers among them in those races and as a result gets the acid test here and deservedly so.

ALMAARAN   (Dalakhani x Almaarad (IRE) x El Gran Senor)

Residency:  MIDAS

Owner:  ramsay

This five year old daughter of Dalakhani loves to run and will do it all day long … the longer the better!  Unlike any other entrant here she actually has to cut back in distance here and that will pose no problem for her as she likes to get out quickly and press the pace only to crush her opponents in deep stretch often winning going away.  Two starts back in the Grade 3 The Floor It Stakes she came up just shy of her first win Graded win and will pick-up the chase once again here.  It wouldn’t surprise me if she changes tactics in this spot given the cutback and plays catch-me-if-you-can … she’s dangerous either way!

MY ROLE MODEL   (Galileo x A.P. Indy x Street Cry)

Residency:  BLAZING SADDLES

Owner:  eminc

A multiple Grade 1 winner this daughter of Galileo looks to get herself back in the Graded win column after finishing third two starts back in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Bowl Filly and Mare Turf Stakes.  In that race it appeared she was wanting more distance at the end and just couldn’t get there on time though willing.  Going into that race she was riding a hot hand having won four consecutive graded events of which three were Grade 1’s in the Adelaide and Irish Oaks as well as The Vermillion Stakes.  She comes into this race off a nondescript allowance affair in which she only ran as hard as she needed to win and amounted to a paid workout.  She will be a tough competitor today and one of the race favorites to win it all!

BLACKEST STORM   (Monsun (GER) x Seeking The Gold x Sadler’s Wells)

Residency:  ALL-STARS RACING

Owner:  darkfall

This four year old daughter of Monsun (GER) may have the hottest hand of late riding a six race win streak including the last three at the non-Graded Stakes level in which she destroyed her fields running away by large margins.  Her improvement has not gone unnoticed and she is a threat to be heard from before all is said and done.  Like another in here she’ll be cutting back in distance and given her recent results that will be of little consequence.  She is certainly capable and would only be a mild surprise here.
