1,000 BP Challenge, Another Good Week

Three runners on the track this week and each one picked up some BP’s

RACERS

I was pretty excited in getting High Candy racing. He’s been away from the track since 2011 and I placed him in a maiden claimer. Not a lot of maiden races for older horses, this one being the age of 6. Entering early in the week, I was very surprised to see a field of four get carded, two being CPU horses. High Candy went off at 1-9 odds and went from last to first to win by over 6 lengths. The speed wasn’t inspiring, charting at 64, but was the fastest he has had on dirt. It’s been close to 3 years since he last raced, so maybe he will get a little better. The win was wonderful and worth a tidy 40 BP’s. No one claimed him so he’ll be freshened to try again in a couple of weeks.

Taffy’s Refraction raced a second time for me, the first time she finished third in a starter allowance. This time she was shuffled into a 7f turf race, squaring off against claimers with a price $50,000 price. She was sent off at 2-1 odds and became the favorite in the nine horse field. Early on in the race, she got caught up in a mob of horses but was able to slice through going into the stretch and made a run down the center of the track to take the lead and won the race. No claims were made for her and she came out of the race in good condition so she’ll be racing again in a few weeks too. 15 BP’s picked up, losing a few with shipping of the horse.

Weather conditions in Texas were dismal and the turf track came up good and Magoooooo got a start in a $125,000 starter allowance. He got caught up in a battle for the lead and rode the outside the entire way right into the stretch. The outside route took it’s toll and he faded back and finished third in the mile with a small 5-horse field. Speed was posted at 96 which I thought was very good after a two month break. Next race will be second start after a layoff, so I’m hoping for improvement off this effort. Magoooooo earned 17 BP’s which is very nice start.

STABLE CHANGES
No changes this week in the stable or the farm. Nor were any attempts made to add to the roster.

CLAIMERS & AUCTIONS
Added one horse to the stable this week by the way of the auction. Lope De Cacique cost me one buck. She is a three year old sired by Lope De Vega and has yet to hit the board in six starts. So why acquire such a horse? Her speed numbers have gone up ever so slowly, but I’m gambling that placing her into the claiming ranks could be of benefit. She’s been with MSW in each start and I think a demotion could get her to earn her keep.

SUMMARY

Net gain of 72 BP’s for the week, moving the total for the year to 209. Bankroll is above $145,000 that offers opportunity of finding better quality horses in the auction. After 12 races, a nice 4-2-2 record. I gotta say, this is much more than I thought it would be at this point.

Heya Ken! Here’s my weekly update –

Here’s my progress. Started with 346 points this week :

Vinnie Lovango – 2 pnts – 5th in a MCl $5k – was trying to wait for local race but none soon, so no reason to let him sit… 🙂 (348)

Circular Angel – 0 Pnts – 6th in Cl $3k – May like turf but the 61 hi speed number isn’t encouraging – dumped into auction (348)

Crystal Cube – 20 points – 2nd in Cl $7.5k Local – Horribly bred mare, but keeps earning me points.. no fear of running her as low as possible.. starting to hold a special place in my heart – maybe a future broodmare… 🙂 (368)

    Colates – 25 pnts – 1st in MCl $7.5k local – no one netered with me – awesome! Easy 25 points. (393)

Lord of HOF – 5 pnts – 5th in SA $125 k Local – New auction addition. Needs to roll back in distance a tad, but this was the best fit for a while. A drop in class is also likely to help (398)

Quad Yeah – 10 pnts – 4th in Cl $4k local – kenctucky bred means local racing isn’t that advantagous; not sure if he can earn much going forward due to this (408)

Nelsons Express – 40 pnts – 1st in SA $2K local – New auction addition has been stellar in local races; looks like a keeper to me (448)

So 102 points this week! 25 races overall; 7w-6p-3s, and at $128,996.

I have been taking my old horses and farming them to make room for auction horses, who I then race and get the first time bonus if I hit the board. Trying to keep a LOT of runners going, and will have to start auctioning some of my recent buys soon, as the farming fees are getting pricier ($23 / day per horse).

Thanks again for a great idea! I’ve really been enjoying it!

    –Mike
