Knightmare’s Breeding Corner
Fair Mix (IRE) (15175)
This week we take a look at a sophomore sire. Fair Mix (IRE) was one of those runners that had success at the track for several years. He was a multiple graded winner in
Real Life- Fair Mix (IRE) is by Linamix (FR). His dam side of the pedigree is very American. His dam sire is Wild Again and his dam’s dam sire is Mr. Prospector. His dosage index is 2.64 indicating a good mix of speed and stamina. He proved that as a runner showing enough speed to win races at a mile and the staying ability to be a multiple graded stakes winner from a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half. He was a grade I winner while racing as a three, four, five and six year old.
His real life offspring will not start hitting the track till next year. His sire Linamix (FR) has been a real force in
Sim Life – Fair Mix (IRE) has a total of thrity-two sim runners most of which are three year olds now. He has one stakes winner from his first crop. He only has eight winners however a vast majority of his runners have hit the board. He was a bit of a late starter himself and looking at his runners it looks as though they are getting better with age.
Surprisingly his fastest turf runner so far has only posted a 79-speed figure. He has at least six runners with higher speed figures on dirt. In fact almost all of his runners are finding success on the dirt. His stakes winner runs on the dirt and sprints.
I think one of the reasons his runners are doing well on the dirt is that he has been bred to a lot of Mr. Prospector line sires which is inbreeding his runners to Mr. Prospector. That probably gives them a bit of a dirt influence. He has been bred to many nice dam sires thus far however a lot of those are from retired mares that were not good on the track.
Breeding Suggestions – Fair Mix (IRE) seems to be off to s versatile start. He has not produced nearly as well on turf as one might expect. Fair Mix (IRE) is descended from the Northern Dancer line however Northern Dancer is far enough back not to show up in his progenies five generation pedigree.
For a turf runner I would stay away from any Mr. Prospector line dam sires and probably any other Raise a Native line sires. I would start with Northern Dancer, look at the Nasrullah line sires like Never Bend,
Mr. Prospector will appear in the fourth generation of Fair Mix’s offspring. I would choose grandsons of Mr. Prospector as dam sires or use sons of Mr. Prospector as dam’s dam sire to get a 4 X 4 inbreeding. I think that combination will probably mean you get a dirt runner more times than not. Bold Ruler line sires are also likely to add dirt influence but is a good line to choose.

Bargain Bred – His sire prices will sometimes dip as low as 50 BPs however some weeks he does not get down quite that far. That makes it a little difficult to get a solid bargain breeding but it can be done.

What to Expect – Fair Mix (IRE) got a late start to his career and ran well for several years. That to me indicates his was probably a late bloomer and by the looks of his current sim runner I think he is producing later blooming runners. He seems to be best on dirt right now but be sure you try his runners on turf. He has plenty of stamina so stretch his runners out. Right now a majority of his runners are sprinters and that may change as his runners start to stretch out.
