NEWSFLASH: Server eats Message Board, BTB Assignments

Arizona & Ohio– This week’s Black Type Bugler issue will be on the lite side due to the recent Message Board malfunctions, editors Roys and Snowchief said on Friday.

Suffering from server woes, the game’s Message Board went offline sometime on Thursday. The forums include the Black Type Bugler Forum, hangout for the BTB Staff.

“Every BTBer and their brother visits our press room/forum each week. We pass out assignments there, credit reporter expenses, check passports, fix errors, and all kinds of nitty gritty stuff. Without the press room, we’re lost,” Snowchief said.

“But we did start the issue on Monday, so we’d like to remind Simmers that there are some previews posted. Many interesting General section articles too. Knightmare also troopered on through with his columns,” she said.

Week 2776 hosts two graded stakes races in addition to the Old Timers Gallop and the first leg of the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series. A number of listed stakes tracks also have coverage.

GONE FISHING

“Nothing makes me reach for the Alka Seltzer more than a lite issue,” managing editor Roys said.

“When I got to cyberwork today and saw that ‘CLOSED DUE TO MYSQL DELAY’ note taped to the BTB Hangout door, my heart sank. To our readers, we might as well hang a ‘GONE FISHING’ sign,” she said.

The BTB announces their issues on the game’s Message Board, outlining what’s what and who’s who in the paper that week. They also deliver some good cheer and “Woohoos!” to the Sim community in their posts.

“Readers must understand that it’s very difficult for the staff to communicate without our forum. We’re just stuck in our old ways with crossing off tracks when reporters ‘call out’ their assignments from our lists. Now, nobody knows who’s doing what and duplicate articles are one-way tickets to burnout,” Snowchief explained.

“Still, we’ve got some great stuff for Week 2776,” she said.

GO, GO, BUGLER!

The Sim newspaper approaches its 7-year anniversary (June, 2006). The Black Type Bugler has been a part of that tradition for approximately one year. Server outages, server moves, game controversies, and more have all been a part of the Simpaper’s history.

“There’s coffee and donuts set up outside the press room, so we’re open for business. BTW, we always need reporters. Perhaps this is a good opportunity to put out the call — help us tell the story of the Sim each week! You can earn some credits too and have fun being part of the team,” Roys added.
