Deseeker found at the finish line

By ITCH

Rockriver2’s DESEEKER ($16.20) survived an early speed duel with TRIGGER’S GIRL G, then made it to the line just in time to withstand the late rush of STONE COLD BIRDIE to win Saturday’s route stake for 3yo fillies here Saturday.

In capturing the COMPTON STREET CHALLENGE, Deseeker matched her top lifetime speed fig of 92, but more importantly, did it going long as her third career stake victory was her first at a route of ground. The first two had taken place at 7 and 7.5 furlongs, and winning at 8.5 furlongs stamps Deseeker as an even more special filly.

As it was, Deseeker barely made it to the church on time, as Dougmatt’s Stone Cold Birdie came flying on the outside, only to come up a nose short of all the money.

It was a battle of contest trainers for the show money, as Nextbonus’ BIG TIME STAR nipped Wassie’s Trigger’s Girl G for those two important contest points.
