There is more excitement in Italy this week other than the Olympics and it is the TRAIN YARD SPECIAL Stakes Grade I for 3 year old Fillies. There may not be any ski jumps or moguls but there are some really talented fillies in this mile and one eighth $450,000 turf Stakes race. There are some question marks in the field and that should make it all the more interesting. Let’s take a look:

(STROLL x RAINBOW QUEST x CAERLEON) Fourteenth ranked filly but has had a bit of a struggle the past three. No better than 7th in those three although all were tough spots. Trainer OnTarget2 has to wonder a bit about this girl that looked so good finishing second in last years GSR Diamond race. Labreche is in the irons and should help here even though the inside post may be more of a hindrance than a help as she likes to drop back a bit at the start. It looks to be uphill here for Takethecar.

(ZABEEL(NZ) x DANEHILL x BLUEBIRD) Lightly raced filly is entering her very first Graded race after struggling in her other two stakes outings. You have to wonder a little what trainer PearlJam has in mind with this entry after her previous two. Twyman is struggling this year as well and the duo will have to have their best effort to hit the board in this one.

(STORM CAT x GONE WEST x NIJINSKY II) A real surprise to see this talented filly run this week after her lackluster effort in the Equinics last week. Trainer TheOC2 must feel that she sure didn’t expend much energy in that race and had plenty left to give. She has really been a disappointment in what appeared to be a very promising season. She is the ML favorite here but you have to wonder if there is more wrong with this wonderful filly than we know about.

(QUEST FOR FAME(GB) x OCTAGONAL(NZ) x NUREYEV) This little filly is entering only her third race and has yet to break her maiden. She looked good last outing in just tiring at the end of the stretch to finish second but this will be her very first race that is not on an off track. That should help her SPF a little but she needs to take it up a notch to compete with this field. Perez is in the saddle and will push her home.

(EVEN THE SCORE x MOULIN(GB) x HABITAT) This is also only the third race for this pretty light grey filly. She cracked her maiden last outing with a nice 87 SPF and won easily as a long shot. She is stretching it out a little here but that may do her good. With so many question marks in this race it might make sense to put a couple of shekels on this lady to land on the board.

(BELONG TO ME x SEATTLE SLEW x GUILLAUME TELL) In her three races on the grass, this filly out of Corparate Slew has two firsts and a second. She had a really sweet ride last outing and wants to prove in a big way that she is ready for Prime Time. Trainer KJRacing may have chosen just the right spot as this filly looks like she can compete. Riggs is up and ready to steer her down the stretch.

(SINNDAR (IRE) x SADLER’S WELLS x BLUSHING GROOM(FR) This Irish Bred out of Wingo Shin may have found herself last time out as she took the Dixie’s Movie Challenge Stakes by storm, winning with an 81 SPF. She has only been out of the top three one time in her seven races and runs with a lot of heart. She is hard to bet against with her record and may upset some folks here.

(GREEN DESERT x CAPE TOWN x STORM CAT) In her three race career, she has shown a ton of speed but most of it is expended at the beginning of the race as she shoots toward the lead. Trainer JSimpson has really been working with her to stay back a bit and it remains to be seen if the lessons have sunk in yet. Thrasher is in the saddle and looking for his first win of the year. They are one of the favorites and would love to make a statement in this race.

(MR. GREELEY x YOU AND I x RAHY) This Chestnut filly is making her first run over a mile and has really struggled her last three races. Her highest SPF in those three was a 65 and that sure won’t do it in this race. She has coker in the stirrups but trainer CoolJoee29 is still trying to point his horse in the right direction. It remains to be seen if this is her type of race.

(GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x NORTHERN DANCER x MR. PROSPECTOR) A Giant’s Causeway offspring that seems to be getting better at the right time. Her speeds have steadily improved and she has competed well in her five turf races by hitting the board all five times. Her last outing was a third in the Triangular Star GIII where she tired just enough at the end to let the winner by. Could be a player in this race.

11 – AIR CALIFORNIA ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK

(A.P. INDY x SADLER’S WELLS x MR. PROSPECTOR) Big Brown girl with impeccable breeding coming out of broodmare Golden Reward. She has a streak of two in a row going and trainer LastHope1 would sure like to see that continue. If she can get there from this post, she will contend for the lead right away and that could end up being her biggest problem in the race.

12 – INCREDIBLE DIVA(IRE) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK

(GALILEO (IRE) x MARIA’S MON x IN REALITY) The light grey Diva has never finished below second in her four races but they sure weren’t against this level of competition. Trainer TG has been incredibly hot so far this year and would like to see that continue. A wild card in this race that is a little tough to figure with her experience.

(DYNAFORMER x SEATTLE SLEW x BUCKPASSER) This could be the filly that is GETTIN’ IT done in this race. She has really looked great lately including her last outing where she won by a nose with a 90 SPF. I hate that she is all the way on the outside but that may not bother her as much as it would some with her tuck in behind the leaders style. Trainer Peter12 has had a good season already and would love to see his prized filly really Get it done here. She might just do that for him.

It’s hard to pick against COSMO GIRL in this race but I think there is something going on with her that we may not know about. I have her to finish fourth. CHOP NEVER STOPS will tire in the stretch and hold on for third. KILLS THE PAIN may cause some headaches for the other runners but I think that GETTING’ IT will be getting it done and be first across the wire.
