The Juvenile Filly – Japan G1 – Some Ramblings On The Race

There’s nothing better than taking on a G1 race in your career and these 2yo fillies are no exception with most of them debuting at this class today in The Juvenile Filly.  They are all sensational champions already and today will separate the elite amongst this field.  Should be a great race and hopefully not too many ramblings.  They are merely my thoughts on these runners as your thoughts are yours.  Which should be obvious!  Ok onto the runners:

Savydan

Getting better and faster with every race, her last time out recorded a speed of 95 over 7 furlongs in a G2 race giving her the win and her highlight of her career to date.  Bred out of Savabeel (AUS),  she has 4 wins from 6 outings and this little filly is very much going somewhere!   Stepping up now to G1 level, she has the chance to go up again and get a win at this level.  Can she do it though?  I say that because the rumours  are that she is one hell of a party girl and stops at nothing to spend the night drinking and singing and doing who knows what until the early hours of each morning. Which is not really good preparation for a race like this.  Or is it?  Time will tell.

FrankieDon’tHurtMe

2yo filly out of Frankel (GB).  Launched her foray into graded racing with a bang taking out the G1 Filly Grand Prix over 8 furlongs with a massive win and a great speed of 92.  She couldn’t repeat the performance in the Breeders Bowl Filly Juvy Turf however remains a big contender here in this very equal field really.  Has 3 wins out of 7 runs and is among the top earners in this field.  The only issue really which may or may not affect her performance is this continued obsession with Frankie.  I mean her side of the story is all about Frankie and how Frankie does this and Frankie does that however I can tell you that I personally spoke with someone who said that they were Frankie.  A very scared Frankie.  A Frankie that is on the run.  Certainly didn’t look like a Frankie that was out hurting anyone.   So what am I getting at?  Who knows – but things aren’t all they seem to be here.

Otto’s Idea

Out of Deep Impact (JPN) which has produced a myriad of champions and this filly is looking like she will join the ranks. 4 wins out of 4 races. Can’t get much better than that!  Yet to run in graded company and she gets her chance today but her run last time out and also debut at Stake level was impressive with a high speed rating of 82.  Will need to get faster today particularly as she is jumping up to a much higher level.  Went back to her home town to get some history on her and get this… the story goes that she was born a wee young thing and was idly grazing in the field.  Until one day this guy happens along, takes one look and says to the trainer “You should race that filly”.  The trainer replied “I’m going to – that’s the whole point of breeding her!”.   To which the man replied “Tell her it was Otto’s idea to race her”.  To which the trainer replied “Never…”.  And so she was named…

Unknown Street

Another which has been steadily building up her career, her last race out was at Stakes class which she won just, over 8 furlongs.  Don’t think she can go a lot further in distance based on that run and she doesn’t need to here either.  This is a lot classier though so time for her to show her stuff.  Out of Redoute’s Choice (AUS) x Street Cry (IRE) x Dynaformer, she is a classy filly already but needs to go up another peg to win today.  Always runs with one eye on the rest of the field which is an amazing and impressive feat in itself.  You watch when she races – incredible!

Who Watches

Surprisingly not the favourite even though she took out the G1 Breeders Bowl Filly Juvy Turf over 8 furlongs!!  With a speed rating of 97 too!!!  So at 7/1 odds she lies.  I cant really say much else about her – he record and last time out speaks for herself. Impressively bred, managed, trained and raced.  The favourite here in my mind anyway.  And as her name suggests – the whole world will be watching to see if she can make it 2 in a row at this level.  Well the whole world being the whole crowd anyway.  World within a crowd.  A crowd within a world. I digress.  Favourite for me by far!

Speak No Lies

Something we tell our kids every generation at some point or another.  And yet still we all do it. Probably more as adults than as kids.  Shame on you all.  On to this great filly! Has an impressive 4 wins out of 5 outings with one of those at G3 level.  Was closing well in the G1 Breeders Bowl over 8 furlongs and just simply ran out of room looks like to me.  So the question is does she want more room or can she start her windup earlier?  We will find out today.  Speak No Lies aptly named – she races hard and well.

O for Frankel

Another out of Frankel (GB).  An O for Frankel.  I don’t get it.  Maybe the trainer can explain to me the name?  It is absolutely fascinating how trainers come up with their names including how I come up with mine.  Regardless, this 2yo has been racing well and comes into this race with a G1 win already in her career. That was over 7 furlongs and a speed of 90.  Couldn’t perform in her last run over 8 furlongs – it was either the distance or the very classy field in the Breeders Bowl racing weekend.  That was also the first race she has had where she hasn’t won!  Another chance here today to add to her win total.

Pivotal Dream

A pivotal dream is an interesting name given that dreams are pivotal in themselves in how they are perceived by the brain when dreaming.  Pivotal in that pivotal experiences are taken, meshed together and made into a dream so that then you can dream it that night. Makes sense?  I think not!  But I had to say something about pivotal dream.  She looks vey impressive this girl and specially over distance.  Will probably be wanting a bit more than 8 furlongs here but look for her crashing home through the rest of the field.  At worst she should get a place – only question is can she get to the line before she runs out of room.  Definitely love to see her racing over longer distance and then I too will get a pivotal dream!

Hi Mom

Out of Exhi! I had to look at this sire as I do not know it.  In only his 2nd season, and Hi Mom is the best of his progeny to date.  Has 57 runners across the 2 years but only the one Stakes winner so this filly is definitely the highlight of his sire career.    And she is a highlight with her last win her best – a win at Stakes level.  Not unknown to Graded racing has performed well in them to date without getting a win so far.   Quite experienced already for a 2yo – watch out for this one.  Could well surprise with a new and untried sire!  And of course you can guess what the first words out of her muzzle is each time she wins and steps up to the podium to give her thankyou speech…  Hi Mom!

Cosmopolis

Three for three.  3 wins out of 3 races.  33.  Double 3.  No matter which way you say it.  No matter which way you look at it. Its impressive.  Far more impressive than anything I own.  Out of Galileo (IRE). Also impressive.   Can she go on impressing?  Possibly.  Has not run in a graded race yet.  Today is her debut – straight to G1 class.  Highest speed rating is 90 so that will have to improve to take this one out against some of her contenders.   But she does have talent, she does have the breeding so why not?  Its all in the cosmo and she is polis of it. So Im guessing yes.

Condottiero

Out of Sepoy (AUS).   Which is a new sire.  Current rank for 2012 crop of 2336.  With 2 runners only.  We come to 2013.  Sire rank currently 17.  104 runners.  Of which one is Condottiero.  2nd in earnings and stature so far out of this sire.  Big ranking change in the sirt.  So this filly is very very impressive to date.   She has placed in graded stakes and is now looks to actually go to the next level and get the win and why not at G1 level!  Well placed on turf and this distance and I think can actually raise the Sepoy sire even higher.  Very good horse – look forward to seeing her run.

Walks Away

Funny name because the last thing she does is walk!!!  She runs and runs fast toward the finish line let me tell you.  However hasn’t affected her style with 3 wins out of 4 now including one in the G3 Winter Gin Special over 8 furlongs.  So looks like she is very much aptly named.  Out of Street Cry (IRE) and looking to further her career here.  One of the favourites for sure to take this out and is going to be hard to see her not getting a placing at least.

Rea Silvia

A filly on the rise out of good breeding with Daiwa Major (JPN).  Looks suited already to graded racing and we are going to see a lot more from her yet.  And the best thing I like about this gal is she looks like she will be going a lot further than 8 furlongs in her career. I don’t know if today is going to be too short for her but she will be storming home no matter where she is.  Very trusty and reliable runner – she looks destined for the longer route racing which we shall see next year I’m sure!

Habanero Amsterdam

Out of Rip Van Winkle (IRE) has a G1 win under her belt over 6 furlongs.  She ran over 8 furlongs on the Breeders Bowl weekend but the distance proved too far for her on that occasion.  And I’m fearing that the same will occur today – may well prefer back to the 6 furlong racing that she has proven herself at already.  This will only be the 2nd time in her career she has run past 6f so that may just be a misnomer and she will eat the distance up today.  Time will tell.  So they say.  Whoever they is. J
