20 Go to the Post to honor Johnny Longdon

The race honoring the great Johnny Longdon features a solid group of three years old fillies going at 6 furlongs over the main course at Vermont. Let’s take a look at them:

THE BLUE SWORD (GB) (9-5-0-2) – Winner of five races, including three minor stakes over her short career. Badly beaten in her last two graded efforts, will need to improve to be competitive here.

NASHBARK (4-1-0-0) – Lightly raced filly, and because of this improvement is still very much expected, but for the moment I will lean elsewhere.

SWEETCHILDOFMINE (7-2-3-0) – Mineshaft filly whose only win came in a lower allowance event. Although she has not disgraced badly in stakes competition, this is a big step up for her.

LORELAI (5-2-2-0) – This filly has shown nice potential over in the Japan Course. Now taking her game to cold Vermont and facing graded and much tougher company that she has faced so far. Not out of the question, but I’ll wait.

FUTURE POSSIBLE (9-4-2-2) – Interesting filly, taking a cutback in distance and facing graded company for the first time. She should be forwardly placed and with a lil improvement, can light up the tote board.

MISS BAILEY (AUS) (9-2-2-2) – This is a pretty talented filly, who has shown progress over her last races, but will need a big step up in her SP’s to be able to win here against more seasoned fillies.

TALES OF THE CRYPT (9-1-3-1) – Her only victory so far has been at a maiden in Eastern Kentucky. Has not been able to compete in stakes company, will be an enormous longshot.

VICTORY CHANT (11-1-1-4) – Her SP’s so far are far below from the best in this race, another one who will need to show improvement for her to stand a chance here.

WALLY’S DEHERE (8-4-1-2) – Winner of three minor stakes, including a come from behind victory at 8.5 furlongs in South Carolina in her last race. Cuts back in distance and she has a victory at 6 furlongs. Big threat.

GENNA LOU HO (8-4-3-0) – This daughter of Rahy has shown ability to finish very strongly, although her best efforts have been at 7 furlongs and beyond. Her only graded event was a disappointment, but can be on the rebound, as shown in her last race.

WONDERGIRL ERIN (7-2-3-1) – Just posted her first stakes win in her last race at 7.5 furlongs. This is a big step up in class for her, with some luck can be fighting for the minor awards here.

LIVE EIGHT (5-1-0-0) – Has not been able to compete in allowance level so far, will need tons of improvement to win here.

FU FU MASCUS (IRE) (9-5-1-0) – Royally bred winner of four minor stakes already. Although she has won at the distance, her best racing is at 7 furlongs or farther. Just as Crabby Patties, she will need a quick pace and some improvement to win.

PEACE BLOSSOM (5-4-1-0) – This talented filly out of the champion sprinter Speighstown is already a G1 winner, taking the Sky Beauty in Kentucky. We should see her looking for the lead and if she does not receive any pressure, it will be very tough for anyone to catch her.

K’S STAND TALL (7-6-1-0) – She just lost her undefeated streak last time out in a hard fought stretch duel, now cuts back in distance and freshened up for this important commitment. Mayor player here.

NICKS BADBOY (7-2-0-0) – Her only non maiden win was in a lower allowance race and at a shorter distance. Will need her best effort and something above that to win.

MAIL ORDER BRIDE (9-6-0-1) – So far this filly has faltered in graded company, taking a step up in class over her last efforts. She will need her best race and a lil bit more to win here.

WANGO TANGO (3-2-1-0) – Lightly raced and very talented filly, her SP’s have been outstanding so far, showing improvement in every next effort. Coming out of a two month lay off, and working daylights in the mornings, is a force to be reckoned with.

KEPLER GNAGET (9-5-2-0) – Her stakes tries have been very forgettable, she must improve on those to be able to compete with these.

CRABBY PATTIES (12-5-1-0) – Another G1 winner, and winner of three stakes races in just twelve starts, just missed out in her last race against Peace Blossom. Probably will need a strong pace to be able to win this race.

PEACE BLOSSOM and K’S STAND TALL make a good one-two punch in this race, with WALLY’S DEHERE and WANGO TANGO as an outside threat, looking to figure in the exotics.

Good luck to all the EQUINICS participants!
