Sprinters Take Center Stage In California

California – California is lucky to have one of the best purse structures in the world and Saturday is no exception.  The Dance Rear Challenge will be run over the main track at a distance of six furlongs.  Six three year old fillies will compete for a prize of $100,000, glory and perhaps a jump in the rankings.  The race is named in honor of Dance Rear, a 9YO, stakes placed winner of eight.  She is by Muhtafal and has only one foal to race and it is a stakes winner, so all you breeders take notice.

A pretty copper chestnut, Exsecutive Suite (2/1) is a daughter of Came Home, and no, that is not my spelling error.  She trained by Sportek.  She has been in the money in seven of her ten starts and has won two of them.  She is no stranger to the stakes having competed at the graded level although she was less than spectacular in her attempts.  She has been knocking on the door recently at longer finishing second in the mile Apple Sheryl and the nine furlong Spanish Fly where she led until deep stretch.  She should be very competitive here.

Tasmanian Tiger (3/1) is a plain brown filly by AP Indy and has that recognizable AP Indy head.  She is trained by Canisminor and has three wins from ten starts.  She was an easy winner of the Friend Daisy at seven furlongs two races back and came away from her last with a great excuse.  Her jockey lost his whip right out of the gate and she just galloped along, with little effort to finish 11^th out of 14.  If one throws out that race, she is right on track to do well on Saturday.

Medaglia D’Oro will be represented by his daughter Medaglia Dancer (5/2).  Ably trained by Subwinner, she has two wins from nine starts and will return to sprints on Saturday which seem to be her best dance.  The compact dark grey was asked to stretch out in her last few starts after winning two in a row going short.  She could be dangerous.

In post four is Nightflyer (5/1), a bright chestnut filly trimmed in white.  She is by Belong To Me and is well trained by Upperhand2.  In her first four races she was kept to contest races before being sent back to a MSW which she won drawing away.  She followed that up with an allowance win and a 20 point jump in her speed figure.  She has only been out of the money once in six starts and this will be her first time in an open stakes.  I think she will make the jump and be one to watch.

Tmjstable will send out a pretty chestnut filly by Cat Thief, ironically named Honest Cat (14/1).  She has two wins from 11 starts and her best recent finish was a second in the Spoon Linda Stakes at six furlongs, three back.  She has been ambitiously placed but has been training well.

On the outside in post six will be Evermind (9/2), a lovely light grey filly by Buddha.  This is a speedy filly that likes the front end and has enough gas to overcome the outside post.  She has never been off the board in her five starts, winning three and that includes her last.  She has been able to carry her speed from six furlongs to a mile and with her improving speed figures may make Mav1763‘s filly one to put on your watch list.
