The Horned Phil
A field of 10 is entered into this weekend’s $35,000 The HORNED PHIL stakes covering 6 furlongs on the dirt for four year olds and up. With the race favorite Supremes home bred Kampfen II K’s going off has the 5/2 favorite. The race could be fairly wide open with 5 of 10 horses having a legitimate shot at winning. Here is a look at the field.
(1) SCORPION FIELD 5/1
The 5yo son of Wild Again is on a three race win streak include a victory in his last start the MORE BANK Bonanza stake in
(2) WOLLAPALOOZA 29/1
With 3 wins from 11 starts and just over $30,000 in career earning this allowance winning son of CHANGEINTHEWEATER seems out of his league here. Owned by Imagrifter this 4yo struggled last time out in stakes company in
(3) ELUSIVE
Another horse that probably needs to stay running in allowance races. The 4yo son of ELUSIVE QUALITY. Bred and owned by Edenridge he has not found the winners circle since 4 races back when he won a restricted allowance race in
(4) RUNWAY T 10/1
A 4yo son of RUNAWAY GROOM and bred and raced by Refinement has hit the board in 12 of 25 races over his career and has amassed over $290,000 in earning. Placing in only 2 races over his last eight starts including an allowance win in South Dakota three races back, but has struggled when stepping up in class. Has a slight chance of getting on the board here, but I would be hard pressed to see it happening.
(5) AFLUKE 5/1
If you look up the word inconsistent in the dictionary you my see a picture of AFLUKE. The 4yo son of AFLEET, bred and owned by Cylla. This$290,000 plus earner came with in a head of winning a Gr1 race five starts back to finishing 9th and 8th respectively in his last two starts one of them being a $14,200 allowance in
(6) KAMPFEN II K’S 5/2
The race favorite and deservedly so. The 5yo son of STORM CAT, bred and owned by Supreme has put up awesome speed numbers going over 100 in 7 of his last 8 starts while running mostly against stakes company. He has been in the money in 15 of 20 starts winning 9 and earning over $390,000 for his career. The only draw back here is that 6 furlongs might just be a little to short for him. But he has the numbers and the class to take this race.
(7) RATCITY IN BLUE 9/2
This 4yo son of PULPIT has been in the money 10 of 15 races and has earned over $100,000. Bred and raced by Ruffian99 he to is Gr1 placed and has put up very good numbers in all his races. Although he has not won in a while and fell sort beaten 1 ¼ lengths in a restricted allowance in
(8) COLLINS STEET 25/1
Owned by Manapace, this 4yo son of PORTRUSH is severely out classed for this race winning only 2 of 14 races, the last one being a 13500 claimer eight starts ago. This horse has been running routes on the turf for most of his career only 1 sprint start for him. He needs to return to the claiming ranks after this race so he can have a chance of finding the winners circle he surely won’t find it in this race.
(9) RIOBRAVO BLUFF 8/1
The old man of the field is this 6yo son of MORE THAN READY, bred and raced by Riobravo. He has managed to finish in the money in 30 of his 53 starts and earn over $165,000. Running primarily in low to mid level allowance races in recent starts he did put forth a solid effort last time out, winning a 7f allowance in
(10) ALLIE BALLY 5/1
Another of the 5/1 shots here, this 4yo son of MACHIEVELLIAN has won 10 of his 19 races and earned just slightly over $150,000. Bred and owned by Arning this colt has put up amazing speed numbers in his last three races 109, 106 and 103 all at three different distances. Coming off these awesome performances this horse is going finish somewhere in the top 3.
