Sophomore Fillies are Seeking The Funk

It’s a small field, but a talented one, for the first running of the $90,000 Seeking The Funk Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at a mile and an eighth on turf.  Eastern Kentucky’s amenities have attracted a pair of stakes winners and a pair of quality fillies making their stakes debuts.

  1. Dropping Verses (8) 2-2-1 $98,158 has been a gem of consistency since switching to the turf in her fourth start – she hasn’t been worse than third.  Tjelroy’s daughter of winner Visionary comes to today’s race off four solid stakes performances, including a win in the Honkey Tonk La Memorial S. at 7.5 furlongs.  She is by Lemon Drop Kid x Vision And Verse x Northern Dancer, so should be able to handle the distance.  3/1

  1. Hero’s Luck, by Partner’s Hero x Barathea (IRE) x St. Jovite, will represent bigbro today.  Lightly raced, (5) 2-1-0 $47,124, this will be both her 3-year-old debut and her stakes debut.  Her last start was a win at 8.5 furlongs on turf, with an 86 speed figure.  A second place finish at 7.5 furlongs on turf when she was caught by a head, provided her best lifetime spf of 88.  3/2

  1. Slow Brew (8) 3-1-1 $86,936, owned by battledawn out of the stakes-placed dam Tungus (IRE) is also making her 3-year-old debut, but is no stranger to stakes competition.  The daughter of Milwaukee Brew x Galileo (IRE) x Soviet Star’s last win was the Solar Jove Memorial Stakes at a mile on the turf.  Her previous start at the same distance/surface was an allowance win with an impressive 92 speed figure.  9/5

  1. Cbchief’s homebred (Indian Ridge (IRE) x Bold Bidder x Luthier (FR)) filly Ride To Show (5) 3-0-0 $19,500, has a pair of allowance wins in her last two races, with identical 82 speed figures  at 8.5 furlongs on the turf.  You can’t fault her consistency recently.  5/2
