Benfactress Boldlt Blows By in Broadside

With Saturday’s win in the $150,000 Grade III Broadside Stakes, Benefactress improves her record to six wins in eight starts and improves to a number 11 ranking among three year old distaff turf routers.

Winning trainer HornedFrog picked up career win number 157 with a patient race plan for the Generous(IRE) filly.  At the top of the stretch, Benefactress was still in tenth place some eight lengths behind the leader.  But flying down the stretch it clearly didn’t matter to her if the pace was backing up or not – she was going to pass them all.

The first half of the race featured a speed duel between Sanatarium’s Inflection and Slipknot22’s  Blackeyed Peace.  Inflection faded to sixth, and Blackeyed Peace appeared to have the race won with a two length lead until midstretch.  A nice second for Blackeyed Peace, but she was no match for the winner.

Super14’s Pressure Drop ran a nice stalking trip and rallied to within of a length of the place position to complete the trifecta.

Favored Smeaton did not seem to like the grassy surface in her try on it, and she finished last.
