There’s a New 3 Yr Old Filly to Worry About!

The Hello, Goodbye Stakes
Grade II Stakes
A mile and one eighth on Fast Dirt
$250,000
Fillies and mares, 3 years old
The far outside post couldn’t stop this filly. A tough veteran field couldn’t stop her. Lack of race experience couldn’t stop the Irish bred. As a matter of fact, NOTHING could stop Why Did You Stop and she swept to a rather easy victory in the Hello, Goodbye GII Stakes in British Columbia today. She had only three races on her resume and none of those were Stakes but her resume just got a whole lot better in a hurry.
And hurry is what this chestnut Swain offspring did as she proved that she needs to be mentioned among the top three year old fillies though she has only raced four times. Her 95 SPF was her best to date and jockey White was masterful in the way he moved her four wide around the final turn and she still had plenty to whip through the stretch.
Ravishing Russkie jumped out to a nice lead from the gate and looked for awhile like she would run off and hide from the field. However, at the three quarter pole there were seven horses within 3 lengths of each other battling for the lead . Zytown, the horse with all the buzz this week around the barns looked like she was in a perfect position to win her third Graded Race in a row but she didn’t count on Why Did You Stop who looked buried and too far back to do any damage. When White swung her out four wide, I’m sure ticket holders were ready to rip them up as there was no way she could get around that crowd and finish anywhere near the top. The big hearted filly flew by the crowd at the top of the stretch, seemed to give a quick glance at Zytown, and put it in another gear. Zytown, in a state of shock, held on for second and Athens stayed in front of Pro Dubai to finish third.
I don’t know whether trainer Unreal was as shocked as the rest of us, but he certainly has to be tickled with the effort of his new prize filly. It will be up to him to get her ready for her next race where it will be much tougher for her to fly under the radar. Of course the way she flew in this one, she may enjoy the spotlight.
Best of luck to all of these fine three year olds.
