Down the card

#1 Hurricane Relief(Ire) – Topicountc (10/1) Bay colt by Generous out of Mr Prospector mare, 2 runs, 1 win.

The most lightly raced of all these with only two runs under his belt, highly thought of by his trainer as he made his debut in a 7½f Stakes race, bounced out of the stalls smartly he made the running before blowing up in the straight to finish second, broke his maiden in an owner restricted maiden on his next start over 6f after being ridden with a little more restraint. Hard to evaluate on what he has achieved so far, but by no means a forlorn hope with plenty of room to improve.

#2 Mr. Bandito – Oaklawn88 (9/1 ) Bay colt by Mr. Greeley out of a Cat Thief he-mare, 7 runs, 4 wins.

Started out his career on the dirt, running twice and picking up show money in both starts, trainer decided to see if the switch to turf would perk him up and it certainly seemed to work as he won a maiden and an allowance before being put in a Stakes race, possibly a little overawed as he finished well down the field, however his trainer persisted with the Stakes races and it paid off with his next start won with a good SP of 91, proved that was no fluke when trotting up in his final start. Will want every yard of this trip as he look like he needs further as he gets older, will sit off the pace and will have the race run to suit.

#3 Boulchique(Ire) – Baronfarms (15/1)  Bay colt by Grandera out of a Stakes winning Storm Cat mare, 3 runs, 2 wins.

Another lightly raced sort with only 3 runs to his name, broke his maiden on his debut over 5½f getting up late on to win, looked better over 7f in his next run in an allowance when scoring decisively, stepped up to Stakes company over 8/1 for his final start, made the running early on and was run down by Ghetto Muppet, probably be better dropped back to this trip but on formlines with Ghetto Muppet will need improvement to figure.

#4 Testing(Ire) – Pg51 (7/1) Bay colt by Galileo out of Broad Brush he mare, 6 runs, 2 wins.

Won his maiden on his debut, quickly stepped up in class for his next start in a Grade III, justified his trainer’s faith by winning comfortably, tried in Grade I’s for his next two starts but failed to make much impact finishing fourth and fifth. Dropped back to Stakes company for his next race and ran on to be beaten a length into second, for his final two year old start he was given another try in Grade I company and arguably ran his best race finishing a closing third behind Seven Lives. Another who looks like he will wanting the step up in trip this year.

#5 Omerta Code – Gradetwo (7/1) Chestnut colt by Sadler’s Wells out of a Stakes placed Gone West mare, 4 runs, 2 wins.

A colt who has so far never run over less than 8f, started out by winning his maiden very easily, followed that up with a win in a Grade III with a good SP, this win earned him a place in the BB Juvenile, unable to get to the lead he ran below form to finish well down the field, for his final start he ran at the DelPenn Champions Day and finished midfield behind Seven Lives. He has a front running style and his last two runs have suggested he will be better suited by this shorter trip, has early speed and should be a major player.

#6 Bbors Baby Tune – Bbor3 (9/1) Grey colt by Skip Away out of a Grade I winning Mtoto mare, 7 runs, 4 wins.

First foal out a top class racemare, made a winning debut over 5f, stepped up to 8f for his next start in an allowance and was just beaten into second, picked up another second before being switched to a Stakes race for his next start, but will have disappointed his trainer with that run, however he soon went on to make amends by rattling up a hat trick of Stakes victories, his win style suggests that he hasn’t been fully tested when winning as does enough to win and no more. Likes to run just behind the pace and will have this race run to suit, should be thereabouts at the finish.

#7 Wigdan – Prufrockja (10/1) Bay colt by Red Ransom out of a Danzig mare, 6 starts, 1 win.

A nice colt who has been brought along steadily by his trainer, won on his debut by 2 lengths, just touched off by a nose in allowance company on his next start, raced more prominently in his next start to be run down in the straight on his Stakes debut, held up in his next start he was beaten less than a length over 7½f suggesting he wanted even further, his trainer then gave him 8½f to get his teeth into, again held up he ran on without threatening the winner to record his only start out of the placings. Dropped back to 7f for his final two year old start he was again just beaten to finish third. Looks like this is a horse that is going to need a trip as he gets older, his trainer probably finds him highly frustrating as he only gets beaten by short margins, however I think this colt has a future and will reward his trainer’s faith. Will be held up for a late run, will probably be finishing best of all.

#8 Storm’s Buda – Kiwi (15/1) Bay colt by Dubai Destination out of a Storm Cat mare, 7 runs, 3 wins.

Started out his career on the dirt, won an allowance on his debut, the most interesting fact being that the third placed horse was Always Improving who went on to win the BB Juvenile Turf, Storm’s Buda has failed to reach those dizzy heights but he has paid his way, followed up his debut with a fourth in a Grade III then finished third in a Stakes race before finishing well down the field in an owner restricted Grade I. After that his trainer decided a switch to the turf was in order and it immediately paid dividends when winning two Stakes races in a row, one by an easy four lengths, on his final start he was given another chance in a Grade and suffered his worst defeat over 9f. Runs his best races when close up to the pace, looks less resolute when running down the field, this drop back to 7f should suit.

#9 Seven Lives – Putitback (6/1) Bay colt by Tale Of The Cat out of a Danzig mare, 7 runs, 4 wins.

Made his debut on the dirt when finishing second beaten by less than a length, switched to the turf after that which saw him rattle up a hat trick of wins, starting with his maiden, dispatched his rivals without too much bother in his allowance, had to work slightly harder for his Stakes debut win but didn’t look over extended. Run down in the straight on his run by an improving sort but quickly made amends on his next outing when lining up in a Grade I on the yielding ground, posted an impressive SP of 94, on his final start he was tried over further than a mile and looked a non stayer when fading down the straight. A bold front runner who will appreciate this drop back to 7f.

#10 Vermont Victory – Wtas02 (8/1) Grey colt by Two Punch out of a Theatrical mare, 8 runs, 2 wins.

Made his debut on the dirt, ran green and ran on late to be just beaten on the line, given another try on the dirt and was again doing his best work late on, switched then to the turf, he swooped late to pick up his first win. Found a nice short field race to pick up a Stakes race on his next start, before running a big race in the GSR Diamond Grade I, staying on through the pack to finish third, this earned him a start in the BB Juvenile but he could never land a blow and finished down the field. Next up he ran in a Grade I and finished fourth behind Seven Lives and Testing running on late in the race, for his final start he ran at the DelPenn Champions Day but never got any close than his finishing seventh. Difficult to weigh up, looks as if he will need further than a mile this year, had good form early on but failed to build on that.

#11 Nureyera(Ire) – Dixieracer (14/1) Bay colt by Grandera out of a Gone West mare, 4 runs, 2 wins.

The second of two colts by Grandera in the race, not my favourite sire after getting one of the slowest horses ever by him. This colt though has done little wrong, made all to win on his debut and repeated that to win an allowance on his next start over 6f, stepped up to a 7½f Stakes race and was mugged on the line to finish second, for his final run he was tried over 8½f and looked a non stayer when beaten by over 7 lengths. Another front runner who went get everything his own way, this drop in trip will be much more to his liking.

#12 Ghetto Muppet(Ire) – Elnop (9/1 ) Chestnut colt by Rock Of Gibraltar out of a Stakes winning Zabeel mare, 9 runs, 4 wins.

Started out his racing career over 5f on the turf, ran green and made late progress to finish second, giving a bit further to run at his next start and won easily, stepped up to Stakes company on his next start and after being a little overawed by the better company knuckled down to business late on and finished third in a close finish. Showed he was maturing which each start when he won a Stakes race and followed this up with a Grade III victory. Each run had seen him step up ½ furlong in distance and each time he looked like he still wanted further, ran over 7f in a Grade I and ran on late to snatch third without ever threatening the winner. After that he was given a spin on the dirt and ran just as well picking up a place, for his final start he won another Stakes race over 8f which was the furthest he had tackled and it was the race he was most impressive in. A colt who will need every yard of this trip, he will probably be better over further and could be running on too late to get the lead.

#13 Tiderunner – Kingfish (8/1) Bay colt by Pulpit out of a Dixieland Band mare, 10 runs, 5 wins.

A colt who made a winning debut in allowance company, however this was one of the first two year old races and was effectively a maiden, followed that up by finishing a close up third and a win in further allowance races, stepped up to a Grade II for his next start and was run down in the straight to finish third, made up for that defeat by winning his next three starts including two Stakes races and a Grade III. This earned him a start in the BB Juvenile where he led the field a merry dance before fading down the straight, his final two starts saw him finish out of the money after being run down in the straight. Had quite a high number starts as a two year old, will appreciate this drop in trip back to 7f although he might be happier over even shorter, a bold front runner who will be there to be caught, but comes into this race with only a 2 week break.

An interesting race, with a strong pace guaranteed with several of the runners wanting the lead, I shall pick three horses in combination forecasts and tricasts, of the front runners, Omerta’s Code looks to have the best speed to get on the lead, Bbors Baby Tune will have the race run to suit and Wigdan who will be running on with some purpose down the straight.

Good luck to all
