Only Five For The Bubba’s Raise

Only Five For The Bubba’s Raise

Northern Cailifornia – The Bubba’s Raise Bonanza tops a 16 race card at Northern California‘s only thoroughbred track this Saturday.  The Bonanza honors a nine year old horse that won 10 of an amazing 71 starts.  He never won a stakes but he did win on both surfaces and this race will honor his turf efforts.  It will be run over a distance of a mile and 5/8 for a purse of $75,000 and is for all horses four years old and up.

Eclipse nominated trainer Bailybarn sends out the morningline favorite, the # 32 ranked 6 YO horse Delaware River (3/2).  The big gray son of Cozzene certainly knows his way around the racetrack with 18 wins from 48 starts, 17 of those coming over the grass.  He has banked over a million and a half dollars and has won three of his last four starts including The Over At The Fan, The Amy’s Machine and The Choice Jesting.  He loves the distance and appears to be well placed here.

Second choice is a former claimer, Swain Centaine (2/1), a 7 YO son of Swain trained by his new owner, Nywinger.  With 14 wins from 46 starts this older guy has the only speed in the race and will probably try to take it gate to wire playing catch-me-if-you-can with the rest of the field.  This is his first start at this distance.

Dan Colony (9/5) is a 5 YO son of Danzig Connection and is trained by Loubean.  He is ranked # 25 and has won almost half of his races, 10/25.  However, his best recent finish was in an owner restricted stake where he finished second, but he is comfortable with the distance and this is a nice spot for him to try and regain his winning ways.

One of my favorite trainers, Proffactor, is sending out P J Spring Air (5/1) who is one of the youngest horses in the race.  By Aljabr, this dark bay colt who is trimmed in white, has only three wins from 22 starts but this is a distance he loves.  He is a closer and will probably be in the pack chasing Swain Centaine the first part of the race.  Throw out his last and this colt could be very competitive.

I have to assume that trainer Jdawg02 entered this race by mistake or maybe to just get some stakes points from a short field.  Seven Notes (45/1) is a 4 YO son of Viscount who has started 15 times and is still a maiden.  He was beaten over 33 lengths in his last stakes try – so maybe the entry wasn’t a mistake – but the horse still needs to find a new job.  Of course, we all know anything can happen in a horse race, but I don’t see this guy with much of a chance.
