The Country Bumkin Stakes

The Country Bumkin Stakes

This week in NSW seven 2 year olds will do battle for the Country Bumpkin Stakes which is to be held over 6 furlongs on the grass for a prize of $80,000.

Let’s take a look at how they line up…….

Teutonic Terror is a colt by Gilded Time and has competed well in stakes company before. Starts a 7/2 shot and is one of the most favoured runners with the punters. Didn’t enjoy the step up to the middle distance last time out but should enjoy being back where he is proven. Expect a big run.

Scruffy Murphy (IRE) has drawn gate 2 for this and looks out of his league. Placed 3rd in stakes company just two starts back but will likely find this far too hot.

Triumphal March is rated an 8/1 chance and hails from the scorpion barns. First time in stakes but alw form is solid. Has fought on bravely in last couple and last time out was rewarded with a gritty win. Will need to race to his absolute best to be in with a chance here.

Yatala Prince is the favourite here and goes in at 2/1. This A.P Indy colt had a great debut for second and was unlucky not to catch a smart winner on that occasion. Looks to have a lot of potential and breeding says he’ll be hard to stop if improves on that first effort. Big chance.

Fleet Overture is my top pick. Great run last start to finish an unlucky 2nd in a tough duel down the straight.  Has had a bit of a break since that run and will likely fly fresh. The one  to beat and will likely improve on his 75 ranking here.

Bittersweet is a 2 year old colt by Lemon Drop Kid and for this has a top jock in the styrups. Even though he is at 7/1 he’ll go alright, solid runs so far and this does look to be a fairly open race with no clear cut favourite. Chance for sure and may be worth a punt.

Edgy (IRE) has had just 3 career starts to date and off a 2nd in alw company last time out he has been bumped up to stakes. Was well held by the winner last start but he drops back in distance here and will be full of running in the final stages. Looks to be a good chance and should be in this for a long way.

Summary: Fleet overture is the one to beat, Teutonic Terror will also be one of the tougher ones to beat.
