Danzig Groom Moves To 100th in Division
The Many Flap Challenge Stakes Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up, One mile on the Firm Turf Course, Purse : $80,000-Z3-China-
An almost full field of 13 nice horses set out in a quest for a $48,000 check for winning The Many Flap Challenge Stakes. Just by looking at the first quarter of the race I could tell the difference between the favorites and the longshots at 51-1 who thought they could “Take it to China.” Gold Forest, the favorite controlled by rider Steven Weller, and second choice Danzig Groom ridden by Quinn Villa, both dueled in first and second switching the whole race. Far back were 3 other top 100 horses in the Turf Classic Division, Hey Bezza, Account For This, Analyze This(IRE), and 101st rank Stroppy. Analyze This was last the first half of the race and the other three mentioned in the previous sentence were 10th, 8th, and 11th in their respective order at the half. At the three quarter mark Danzig Groom was up to a nose lead over Gold Forest who happenned to be a nose in front of 8-1 Stonehenge, who had just came fresh out of a wire-to-wire allowance victory. Stonehenge however fell back again approaching the finish as Danzig Groom ran away to a 2 length victory. Gold Forest held on for second but the biggest performance came from overbrooks’ homebred filly Analyze This, who gained 7 1/4 lengths in the final 2 furlongs and ended up in the third slot. The rest of the field fell way back the whole way and none except Analyze This could gain over 5 lengths on the two speedsters. The final time went in 1:35.20:
8 DANZING GROOM $11.10 $7.00 $4.60
2 GOLD FOREST $5.20 $3.50
10 ANALYZE THIS(IRE) $7.50
Exacta: $53.70
Trifecta: $597.50
