Eighteen young ladies vying for Prom Queen!

Prom Queen, Bell of the Ball, Juvenile Fillies winner – it’s all the same, a bunch of giggling girls with aspirations matched only by the expectations of their over-bearing parents. With the trainers taking the place of the parents for the day, we can only hope that Carrie doesn’t show up!

On to the runners:

BARB’S BABA WAWA leads the post parade – owner redhead must have the hands of a surgeon to bring this one back after her abysmal effort of her first stakes race. There was obviously something wrong that day and her last two races look to have earned her a shot at the title. The Morning Line odds maker must have been to a frat party last night – 12/1 about the horse with the fastest speed rating in the field? As long as she doesn’t eat her corsage, this one will be wearing the coveted tiara!

As with all prom nights, the stunning diva is always accompanied by the homely best friend – and to keep the tradition in place, FOREVER BELLE is next out onto the track. Wearing cheek pieces for the first time (the doctor said the zits would clear up eventually), owner stretch looked almost as bad as the horse! I don’t normally write off the chances of any horse but for this one, I’ll make an exception – see you at the auctions!

INDIGO IS BLUE (IRE) – Difficult to work out where she fits into the equation. Her previous owner thought she was good enough to race in a 5k claimer and the obviously affluent hornets07 must have seen a good opportunity for a tax write-off! Still, she’s finished the cleaning and her Ugly Step-sisters set off for the ball earlier in the day. Let’s hope she can finish the race before midnight!

Whilst we’re on the Ugly Step-sister theme, next onto the track comes AVENGER’S STUPOR. Here’s a perfect example of a parent’s blind love for their progeny – the baby wins a talent competition and is sent for auditions to the National Opera! Owner theavenger is not short of optimism and will no doubt regale visitors at Christmas with tales of how his little beauty made the final.

As A OK RAIDER arrives, accompanied by chaperone raider98, the place is thrown into chaos as the boys from the previous event start to argue with the younger gentlemen and as with all parties when the jocks move in on the beauty queens, the spotty oiks rush in and cop a feel! As the homely ladies realize that their slim chances of getting anything out of the day is slipping away, they rush into the melee and the Morning Line favorite shows a sweet turn of speed to avoid the onrushing crowd. If she can reproduce that in the race, she’ll be hard to beat!

Onto the track steps JAVA SEA, she looks a little nervous. Her proud owner, morrissey, tries to clam her but this fresh-faced natural beauty looks like she is barely out of Kindergarten. The giggling becomes a cacophony of horse laughter and Java Sea raises herself to her full height….and runs away as fast as she can!

As the laughter subsides, super24 steps into the limelight and announces that his charge, MOMENTS OF TRUTH, will be along very soon. Apparently, she had decided that she needed to have some finishing touches applied to her tail plait. When she finally makes her entrance, she looks a picture of health. Rumors abound that she went to kiss the Blarney Stone before leaving Ireland – others, less kind, explained she’d need all the luck of the Irish to win this one.

How can anyone be cruel enough to name a young lady TERRORIZER? The only person to have seen this impressive looking filly in the last seven weeks is owner sdmf1, who may not have the best judgment in naming horses, but certainly knows how to train them. Seeing the potential from early in her career, Terrorizer was fast tracked into Stakes and Group company but she failed to live up to those expectations and was sent back to finishing school where she graduated with honors last time out.

Another to lose her virginity last time was MIDNITE RUMBLE (IRE). Owner twinoaks finally saw the light and put his foot down. Before that race, Midnite was quite happy to follow the crowd, never getting too prominent to be noticed and happy to live in the comfort zone. After a little encouragement, she was forced to the front and suddenly found herself in the limelight, and boy! did she like that? Of course, it’s a heck of a lot easier to stand out in a crowd if you’re a thoroughbred in a field of donkeys!

Punster, super22 is next onto the circuit leading the hilariously named UNFORGETTABLE F (IRE) – but if they think I’m going to change the formatting of the article to accommodate this clever play on words, they can think again! Despite the unfortunate name, this one looks like she might even have some talent. She may have the look of a spoilt brat (rumor has it she refused to even attend if there was grass or anything approaching rain) but when she’s in the mood, she can be quite charming. Whether she has the stamina to see the party through to the end is something open to speculation though.

DIRKA DIRKA represents the cobrakai yard. Having won a bonny baby contest first time out, her owner saw the potential and persuaded her to run for hall monitor – a post in which she excelled. As she blossomed, she decided to run for class president but there was too much competition and she was left wondering what might have been. Her confidence might have taken a bit of a knock, but this sweet little girl is growing into a beautiful young lady and few would begrudge her the title.

We didn’t want to mention this earlier, but now we are convinced – the next trainer on the track is either one of quintuplets, or a guy with shares in a tuxedo shop! Super25 looks remarkably like all the other trainers with the same name and changing the color of the cummerbund is fooling nobody! On his arm this time is FUNKADELIC (IRE), a rather robust looking lady who looks like she could erm…dance all night long. She’ll still be partying at the end, but does she have the goodies to impress the judges?

Having made yet another adjustment to his attire, super27 now leads out the appropriately named, EPITAPH. She is drop-dead gorgeous – and she knows it! Her perfect physique emphasized by some exquisite mane and tail work. A few have mentioned that she doesn’t have the experience of the other girls but everyone wants to see the cute little shy girl take the crown (don’t they?).

RE WESTERN GROOM – so often the bridesmaid, she caught the bouquet last time out and did it in style. Owner, hijacked, has carefully nurtured her and allowed her to blossom in her own time – at least that’s the official line! With her breeding, she should have the world at her feet but she looks more like she’s been carrying it on her back! In desperation, she was thrown into a piddly little race where finally lost her maidenhood. If she has learnt from that race that success is earned and not handed on a plate, she might just turn out all right.

Next up is another youngster who looks like she is a party animal. COLONY RIDGE looked to be finally getting the hang of things just as everyone else was getting their coats back in week 2636. After a few words of encouragement from owner shedrow, she was the life and soul of the party last time and still outstayed her welcome. If she’s not too busy entertaining the other guests, she might just have time to give her acceptance speech before moving on to a club!

At least theavenger didn’t try to fool anyone – he actually looks proud to be escorting more than one young lady. Goodness knows why! GRINDSTONE AVENGER turns out to be the other Ugly sister! Like the other one, she’s certainly been around the block a few times but if she has ever met her Prince Charming, I bet he was running in the opposite direction!

As KILLER ANGEL arrives onto the track, wistful0 looks around nervously. The filly is very much on her toes and looks like she just wants to get this over and done with and the trainer will have to calm her before the they get down to business. She was always far too eager in her early career and a return to those ways will surely see her miss the grand finale.

It’s HIM! He’s back again! This time, the master of disguise is masquerading as super18, but very few people seem to notice. All eyes are on EXILE ON MAIN ST who looks stunning. She’s well known on the circuit and no one will be surprised if she lifts the crown today. Never out of the top 3 and expected to do well again.

As the contestants gather once more to take their final turns before the judges, except for Java Sea who tries to hide behind the big girls, the giggling stops and the confident smiles return. But which one is going to be the Prom Queen and which will turn out to be just pretty faces in the yearbook? Good Luck Girls!
