Wonderboy Eamon(IRE) tames Monkey(G1)
Upper New York– After a second drubbing around two-turns, Wonderboy Eamon(IRE) sure appreciated a fine cutback in distance. The Desert King(IRE) youngster definitively convinced trainer stalfrank with a dramatically sweeping score in the Grade 1 $500,000 Killer Monkey (sponsored by GR Simsters).
The colt remained perfect around a one-turn punch. Breaking so-so out of the gate, ‘Eamon settled near the back of the pack. He and the other closers clearly enjoyed a fiesty pace battle up front. Fernando Storm, Incredible Mojo, and company duked it out like there was no tomorrow.
The pace cooked the frontrunners so bad that even inzy6’s longshot Whisperly made up over 10 lengths to grab a piece of the purse. Wonderboy Eamon(IRE), however, had a bead on the wire and outdueled sarava’s Grade 1-placed Fappaburst to prevail by a scant 1/4-length. The duo hit the line in 1:23 flat for the seven furlongs.
Railbirds sure loved Wonderboy Eamon(IRE)’s rocketin’ $29.50 payoff. The colt went off that high despite winning the Grade 2 Dell Computer Futurity back in early September. He won that 7f contest in equal time.
The victory pushed the colt’s bankroll up over the $500k benchmark. He currently ranks 2nd in the 2YO Dirt Sprint Division as a winner of 5 of 8 lifetime starts.
