Who Will Get Win Number eight?
Firm King (6/5), a dark chestnut 4 YO filly by Desert King, is the slight favorite. I caught up with her trainer Pandrews who assured me that she was only out for a work on Saturday in preparation for DelPen Champion’s Day.
“She didn’t have enough points to get in the Breeder’s Bowl and I didn’t want her sitting quite so long between races, so I found this soft spot for her just to keep her in shape. I don’t want to take too much out of her but I still want her to get something out of it and a race will be better than a public work as she likes the competition,” I was told.
Firm King is ranked # 20 in the Turf Classic division and has won 7/11 starts including her last, The Triangular Hill.

Punisher will be sending Kill Bill (9/5) from post 3 and the 4 YO daughter of Kurofune is ranked number 19 in the Turf Classic division. She also has won seven and comes into this race off a win last time out in a restricted stakes. She likes this track and it may give her an edge as she finished second here in
The fourth and final horse in the group is Marita Covarrubias (7/1) who was previously owned by Whirlaway, if my memory serves me right. Now trained by Cpustables, this 6 YO mare by Glitterman is a solid allowance mare and is stepping up only to fill the race.
